Progesterone Pessary

Has anyone else been prescribed progesterone pessaries for pregnancy after a pre-term birth?

Cervix is also being monitored but at 20 weeks I have been prescribed these, consultant was of the opinion that there isn't strong evidence they help, but that they don't do any harm.

I just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience.

Yup - I credit them with DD as lost all other pregnancies both before and after without using them. They are absolutely fine to use - made from yams apparently and will absolutely do your pregnancy no harm. I'm a big fan!

I had them after ivf. They make a bit of a mess in your knickers if you use them vaginally as they melt and run out. (Sorry if tmi!) I found it better to insert them into the rectum as they stay put better. Good luck with the pregnancy.

I used them from 24 weeks up to 36 weeks, i had to put three a day in. My cervix had shortened 1cm in a week and they kept me stable for the remainder of the pregnancy. As soon as i stopped using them I had dilated 1cm in a week. So, i believe they worked for me.

Was prescribed them after a premature birth at 23 weeks. Got to 38 weeks (then induction) and 40 weeks in my pregnancies with them. Good luck

Mine story is different as I have pcos and I'm pre diabetic, had two mcs last year one missed at 10 weeks and one 'natural' at about 8. Have been taking progesterone tablets and suppositories since ov and I'm now almost 20 weeks pregnant :) have stopped taking them 3 days ago :)

I took them from ivf pregnancy way before 12 weeks took it till 36 weeks and my lil girl is 2 months now. My waters broke week after stopping them.
