Help - waters broken???

I am 37+3 and woke up this morning to what I can only describe as weeing myself. I stood out of bed and the went to the loo to wee and what felt like a normal wee came out. I was half asleep and flushed without really checking. When I got back to bed there was more than what I thought and it had left quite a large patch on the bed. I called the midwife and did as advised, put a pad in, then chill for an hour and see what the pad looks like after. I did this and it was pretty clear. They recommended I go in and they did a test to check if my waters had gone. I was really shocked as it came back negative. Now I'm questioning myself and really not sure given I'd literally just woken up from a really deep sleep/dream. Any advice would be appreciated. Do you think I could ask for the test again later today? As the midwife did say it can sometimes have an incorrect reading.

Hi lou230717

I think it's just one of those things that can happen later on in pregnancy. I'd just keep an eye on it.

I was told when I was in labour that your waters continue to go until the baby is born. If you are still getting anything coming out maybe call them back but it sounds like it's just pee (sorry). Pregnancy and childbirth is so glamorous isn't it

Amniotic fluid has a very distinct smell, it's really hard to describe but it's almost a primal smell (I know that is really unhelpful!) I think you would be able to tell? Keep an eye on it though - good luck!

Thank you both. I think you're right and I did just have an accident. No further signs since, honestly thought I was going mad, so positive that it had happened!! 😩

I woke up one morning to find that my waters had gone at 34+6 last time. As pp said, amniotic fluid has a very particular smell. I also soaked though two maternity pads, a pair of jeans and track suit in the space of two hours. If your waters have fully gone, it's pretty dramatic. But I think you can leak, so keep an eye on it!
