Weight gain in pregnancy

When in your pregnancy did you start gaining weight?

It's super early days for me but I've put on 8lbs and haven't been eating anything more than before and I want to know if it's normal fluid retention or something like that or if I'm just greedy and haven't realised yet.

I put on stones with my first and has taken me years to get off I thought I was doing well Sad

By 8 weeks I had put on 7lb, by 41+3 I had put on 5stone Grin. Now 6 months postpartum and have 7lb left to lose. Don't worry too much. Every pregnancy and person is different. Just try to eat healthily and do some exercise. You'll be fine!

Thank you smarshian I can't help but worry it's taken me eight years to get out of elastic wasitbands and I'm now bursting out my jeans and only 5Weeks+4

I daren't weigh myself but I feel super bloated and the last 2 weeks I've been so nauseous the only food i can stomach is beihe. Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes. Veg and meat are turning my stomach a bit 😷. Hopefully once the nausea phase settles I can get back to eating more healthily!

I started out at 120lbs and 5'4"
I put on 9lbs in first trimester so was expecting a big gain but am now nearly 34weeks and only up 20lbs. Different people gain at different stages. In my second trimester I didn't gain at all because I had my energy back to exercise and my food aversions went away. Now that baby is growing rapidly I can go a couple of weeks with no gains and then put 3lb on in a week when he has a growth spurt

I am 15 weeks and haven't put on any weight (which worries me!). However I have been getting very bloated in the day, so if I weigh myself in the afternoon I can be up to 5lbs heavier than in the morning! So it's definitely fluid retention or something for me. It's been like this since about 8 weeks.

I put on 4 stone in each pregnancy - big babies (9lb 2 and 8lb) but also a lot of fluid, and in my second I had cravings for Mars Bars and Maltesers. I never really had a sweet tooth before, but unless I ate what I fancied I would feel sick. After my first pregnancy I lost all the weight apart from a stubborn 7lb, I'm only 9 weeks post-partum with my second DC and hoping to slowly get back to the weight I was before I had kids (10 stone, I'm 5'6').

I think everyone's different! I'm nearly 16 weeks and still the same weight I was before I was pregnant, but my belly has expanded! I think it's due to nausea and better eating since I found out! (Minus the occasional McDonald's)😂. Don't worry about it though, just embrace it! I certainly will when it comes. D

For anyone who hasn't put on much weight, I wouldn't worry about it. With DS I only gained 12lb and my BMI was 19 to start off with, but he was a healthy 7lb 14oz at full term. With my 2nd pregnancy I've only just started to gain weight at 20 weeks. We're all different :)

Ok I like the sound of afternoon weight gain that's gone by morning 🤞🏽it was the afternoon I weighed myself Wink

I've put on 15kg at 33 weeks. With my first I put on 40kg (85 lbs). So happy this time around even if it is 'more than recommended'. Oh, and I lost the whole lot last time by 5 months pp, this time 15 lb by 20 weeks. I don't expect to gain a huge amount more as I can't eat as much and it takes so much energy to keep up with life, exercise, other kids, house, work etc. don't worry OP you're certainly not alone :)

Sasmac2017 · 04/07/2017 03:22

Not sure where he rest of my msg went....it was meant to say I had put on 10lb by 12 weeks this time

owltrousers · 04/07/2017 12:34

Only 13 weeks, I feel huge, my tummy is V bloated and puffy and I have a definite double chin going on but I weighed myself at the weekend and I weigh the same as I did at my MW booking appointment. Go figure!
