Parenting classes

DH and I have been advised we need to go the hospital for 4 , 2hr "parenting classes" sessions. I was wondering if anybody else has been on these and what to expect. I have been advised that we will get shown the maternity ward, birthing areas but not sure what else happens. I am due on 9th Aug but my little man is apparently growing a bit big so I may be brought forward, so may miss the last session or 2 so just wondered if I would be missing anything important... Thanks

Are you sure they are parenting clssses? They are usually to help parents struggling with older dc. These sound more like antenatal classes. I found them quite useful but nothing I couldn't have read up on online or just worked out for myself if I hadn't gone. I know plenty of people who didn't bother!

Ours covered what happens during a normal labour, including pain relief, and then possible complications. Second class was all about caring for the baby - breastfeeding, skin care, safe sleeping etc.

Whynot - when I asked the midwife she said it was a "strange" name to now call the sessions and that they may involve aspect of antenatal ..so she was not very helpful in advising on the content of the sessions, as like you in assumed it would be more the antenatal Sid of things ..hence taking DH along for moral support lol

Spam, thanks for your help, that sounds like it could be useful being a FTM and feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the closer it gets xx
