Sickness and pregnacare making a difference

I've been so nauseous that I've been prescribed tablets which sort of helped but not enough to make it worth the increased drowsiness.
I had a hideous day today and was disappointed because I had felt a lot better yesterday and thought maybe I was struggling the worst. I'd missed my pregnacare vitamin and it occurs to me that the really bad days have been the odd day when I've forgotten to take it. Then because I'd missed the one the day before I took it in the morning yesterday and had a good day.
Is it possible that there's something in them that helps that immediately though? Or is this nonsense from my tired ill state?

No, you're not wrong. I couldn't keep them down either and my sickness improved when I stopped.

I take 2 x floradix and 1 x vit d now plus folic acid in the early days.

ChickenPoetry · 30/06/2017 23:08

No you're not imagining it, I work in this area and it's reported a lot. Take your folic acid and vitamin d just a separate supplements.

Used2bthin · 30/06/2017 23:13

Thanks so maybe an ingredient in it?

They're just too hard on your system whatever concoction is in them. When I was ttc I took them and if I'd skipped breakfast they made me so ill. So so sick.

wellied · 30/06/2017 23:23

I'm confused, op is saying pregnacare seems to help nausea but others are saying it makes it worse? Or is it my 8 weeks preg brain...

VioletBow · 30/06/2017 23:23

They made my sickness so much worse, awful things

Used2bthin · 30/06/2017 23:41

Wellied you are right my op does say jg makes it better for me although now I'm wondering if I'm confused and it's the other way around!

Have made my sicknesss so much worse in all 3 pregnancies. I just go back on then after the first trimester and take folic acid at the start.

NorthernLurker · 01/07/2017 08:40

The sickness is caused by the effect of hormones on the body so logically vitamins shouldn't make any difference. However I always found there was a significant psychological element too so I can well believe that both an absence of the vitamin or taking one made people feel better. It's a placebo type effect.

ememem84 · 01/07/2017 08:52

I felt super sick when I took pregnacare so switched to seven seas. Much less sicky feeling.

My gp also told me to try and take them (and any other vitamins not just while pregnant) at night time. Same with antibiotics (if they're one a day) more likely for your body to focus on them instead of the million other things you're doing. That was the gist anyway.

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 01/07/2017 09:26

Oh my gosh, if I take my pregnancy multivitamin on anything other than a full stomach, it makes me nauseous then vomit.

Made this mistake last week by having my vitamin after my first breakfast (bit of fruit and piece of toast) and then threw it all up on the street. Have to wait until after my second breakfast, or ideally at lunch which is a bit more substantial.

And I'm well into my 3rd trimester too, thought I'd be past it.

twinkle1972 · 01/07/2017 09:39

Made my extremely sick too. I seen my breakfast for a second time on many occasions! Stopped taking them now

YoureNotASausage · 01/07/2017 10:30

Northern, pregnancy sickness and getting sick from pregnicare are two different issues. Pregnicare made me through up a number of times before I was even pregnant when I took it on an empty stomach. It's vicious stuff.

mummabubs · 01/07/2017 10:33

This is why I've avoided pregnacare even though I've been given lots of free sample packs- just buying folic acid and vit D from the supermarket is much better not to mention much, much cheaper!!

affectionincoldclimate · 01/07/2017 11:15

What chicken said.
I took folic acid with vit D from Boots and it was cheaper and less sick making.

Floradix was great for iron deficiency (only got that after week 20 though)

Used2bthin · 01/07/2017 22:29

Thanks all. Today started badly, was ok in the middle then awful, proper throwing up. I took pregnacare last night as usual then not taken it today as yet so it's probably just more to do with what and when I've eaten/ how busy or stressful the day is/the way the stars align !
Feeling really sorry for myself today. I'm 12 weeks and had really hoped it was improving the other day. To make it really unfair , I am gaining weight v fast too as despite feeling awful, I am having to eat often and also mainly carbs. Previous pregnancies I had lost weight which I know isn't good but this time I could do with slowing the weight gain as I'm already overweight.

Just stop taking them and switch to floradix and vit d and folic acid. Honestly they're vile things which are clearly not helping you.

ripa81 · 06/07/2017 18:53

I drank no to morning sickness tea. That helped a lot. Tea helps to settle the stomach too. Crackers did not really help me. But I know a lot of woman that it helped. And if it does not get any better call your doctor.

Used2bthin · 06/07/2017 19:12

Thanks I'm still feeling dreadful despite being on cyclazine although they do help a bit . Not enjoying the heat and feeling really down about my weight as I'm heavier than I was at the end of my last pregnancies . Almost 13 weeks so fingers crossed it gets better soon.

I switched to pregnacare recently and have found them ok, they instruct you to take them with your main meal of the day so I take them in the evening, don't notice any sickness as I'm sleeping by then! Congrats on your pregnancy OP and I hope you start to feel better soon. I am none 11 weeks with my first, still very active but I too have gained too much weight already and trying not to think about how much more I'll gain in the coming months! Confused

NonStopDisco · 06/07/2017 22:08

used2bthin I'd get on to your docs to see if you can get a different set of tablets as you'd be running the risk of becoming dehydrated, especially if you've been in them a while. I think some of the B vitamins in pregnacare ( b6) can make sickness worse.
There is a hyperemesis support thread here if you'd like some help on pregnancy sickness.

Lemondrop99 · 06/07/2017 23:07

If you're still suffering with sickness, talk to your GP again. The Pregnacare is unlikely to be having much impact either way. There are other medications you can try (sympathise with the sedative effect, it's awful). Cyclizine doesn't always do much, there are other things you can try if needs be. Don't be afraid to ask.

Used2bthin · 09/07/2017 18:13

Sorry just seen the messages thank you all. Bad today today I think I will take your advice and ring the Dr again tomorrow. Every day I think it's improving but nope- it starts kicking in around 12 and gets steadily worse !
