Steroid injections

I've been told that I have to have steroid injections from 28 weeks as my consultant is thinking of delivery my baby early by CS as my first baby was low weight and the consultant now thinks I might have had pre-eclampsia last time, which was undetected.

Just wondering if anybody knows anything about the steroid injections please? For instance, how often do you have them, where do they inject you, does it hurt (not sure if I want to know the answer to that one!).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had 2 injections, 24 hours apart- one in the top of each thigh. The second one seemed a little sore, but nothing to really worry about. The only real side effect I noticed was my face went quite blotchy and I was really hot for a day or so afterwards. Hope that helps.

I had 2 injections, 24 hours apart as well... I had lots of injections due to issues and got to say these ones made my eyes water a bit... they are a bit stingy.. but totally worth it!

I did not notice any side effects.

Best of luck....

Hi lloydie - I also had steroid shots when I developed pre-eclampsia at 31 weeks. I was told to expect something like a bee sting but actually it didn't feel that bad. The best advice I was given at the time was to wiggle your toes as you are getting the injections -not quite sure why this works but it really did! Good luck hun.

Thanks very much for your messages. Hopefully I'll only have a couple of injections then.

I had had dexamethasone (sp!!) injections.. every 5 days.. from 28weeks onwards.. they hurt when the fluid went into my bum but otherwise they were fine... They did tyhe job they were supposed to which is the main thing.. ( I did bloat.. not sure if that was steroids or the fact in hospital for 8weeks.!!! and not doing anything!!!)

Good luck ..

Thanks for your message twoplusone. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what my consultant says when I see him at 28 weeks.

Hoping to only have a couple of injections but him saying "from 28 weeks onwards" makes me think there may be more. Oh well, if its best for the baby then thats the way it has to be!
