I'm 4w5d and wondered if anyone else fancied joining me on the amazing journey to come?
First, second, third or fourth (or more!!) timers welcome!

This will be #1 after a long 18 months of miscarriages, infertility and heartache but i'm feeling super positive about this one and ready to enjoy the next few months!

Oh god with my first pregnancy I googled everything, think it caused more stress than anything, trying to be a bit more relaxed this time and not google as much lol

Summerblush1982 · 09/07/2017 19:05

@Lauralou031986

I feel like it's taking over my life already with time passing sooooo s.l.o.w.l.y

Lauralou031986 · 09/07/2017 19:11

Oh I no I feel like we've known for ages, think after the first scan things will just progress from there and be more real Smile

SS81C · 09/07/2017 20:16

I'm 36 in South Wales,
This is our 2nd....first was unplanned but definitely not unwanted shes nesrly 2. we were super lucky and got pregnant really quickly with this one (which was planned) but I'm way more anxious this time round bizarrely....

Summer1986 · 09/07/2017 21:23

Hi ladies, welcome and congratulations to the new additions to the group! Just checking in from my holiday on isle of Wight.

I'm almost 31, from West mids. We've been married for 6 years, TTC this one since Jan. Miscarried at about 10 weeks in 2014 then decided not to try again as life threw another load of crap at us. Hoping and praying this will be our "rainbow baby" but trying to take it one week at a time being as relaxed and positive as possible.

CL1982 · 09/07/2017 21:26

Nice-we have quite a few over 30's and def a few who have been through the TTC mill.

So a few have scans this week and at least two of us on a Thursday?! Exciting.

I have mixed feelings about an early scan. On one hand-yay! You see there are things in there. On the other if anything is wrong it's not a great event. I'm glad it's not until next week on the day after we get back. Hopefully I'll be too tired to think about it!!!

I feel the same as you CL! Excited but scared - I've got everything crossed for all of us.

Summer - let us know any Isle of Wight recs, I'm headed there in a few weeks!

I'm definitely googling everything. Every slight twinge makes me worried🤷🏻‍♀️

pommie7 · 10/07/2017 10:21

I'm 31 in a couple of weeks. We got married in Jan so came off the pill around November and have been trying since then. Waiting anxiously for my phone call from the Dr's this morning, I phoned to book an appointment telling them I'd had a positive pregnancy test and they gave me a telephone consultation, is that normal lol? Still trying to not get too excited as it's still so early on, and it's our first as well.

CL1982 · 10/07/2017 10:46

@pommie7 I have no idea!!! I am so confused by it all. Assuming all is well with my scan I'll make an app with my GP I think.

OP posts:
SS81C · 10/07/2017 10:46

Congratulations @pommie
I wouldnt say that's unusual. Some places you don't have to see the GP at all you can just self refer to the midwife.....theyll probably just take some dates and info and then refer you to the midwife....

pommie7 · 10/07/2017 11:02

Ahhh ok, makes sense!! I agree it's all so confusing at first, I've also only lived in this area for just over a year, so I don't even know if you go to the hospital or a birthing centre or what lol

smeerf · 10/07/2017 11:45

I'm 30, I'm 8w1d, this is my first and me and my partner live in South London. I've been waiting for my partner to be ready for a few years now (he is younger than me) so it seems like this has been a long time coming but really we had only been properly trying for a few months so this was a bit of a surprise, especially as a few medical issues in my past made me concerned that I might struggle to conceive. Doesn't stop me doing my my best Sirius Black impression when I'm told to be patient... "I did my waiting! Twelve years of it! In Azkaban!"

I haven't posted for a few days as I haven't really been in a good place, the constant nausea and fatigue is really starting to get me down now, it's preventing me from socialising and I just feel really lonely. I feel like the least fun person to hang out with at the moment and I'm like a broken record:

partner: Are you OK?
me: No, I feel sick.
(repeat ad nauseam)

But I'm making a concerted effort today to be positive and this thread is helping - we're all in the same boat and no one else is feeling sorry for themselves, everyone's just getting on with it. Going to try and throw myself into some knitting this evening as that always distracts me - and this time the baby clothes are for me!

KerryLeanne84 · 10/07/2017 11:53

Bless you Smeerf - a lot of us haven't reached the point of proper continuous morning sickness yet so you have a right to be fed up! Even when it's something you want badly, that doesn't mean it's bad form to say that you're feeling rubbish.

When will you have a scan?

SS81C · 10/07/2017 12:02

Aw @smeerf - it's rubbish isn't it.

I think the difficulty is it's relentless and you're just expected to get on with it for as long as it continues..... I'm feeling like a terrible mother this morning because I shouted at my toddler when she emptied a packet of crisps over the floor. I'm usually very calm but the nausea and tiredness along with my partner being on nights has just pushed me over the edge today.
Tomorrow is a new day.....

smeerf · 10/07/2017 12:08

Thanks @KerryLeanne84 - I did my self-referral at the end of last week and they say I'll get an appointment letter for booking in within 2 weeks (and then a scan after that I assume).

Is your scan a private one? I was thinking of maybe splashing out on an early scan here for peace of mind. I'm really anti private healthcare for profit but at this place the profits go towards research, and it's not far from me.

smeerf · 10/07/2017 12:16

@SS81C - that's exactly it - if I could have just one day off I could get my head straight but it's relentless.

Hmm.. also now you've mentioned them, I could murder some crisps!

smeerf · 10/07/2017 12:25

@SS81C - also, of course you're not a terrible mother - you're human! Got distracted by crisps and forgot to put that in my last message Grin

CL1982 · 10/07/2017 12:35

@smeerf I know the feeling. Although I haven't had the heaving nausea it's the constant battle with 'what can I eat that doesn't make me retch today' vs the 'how have I spent this long sleeping?' that is getting me down. I'm worried for when I go back to work. It's be bearable as I'm on holiday but at work it's going to be dire Confused

Small portions, lots of snacks and just do what you can when you can. I absolutely underestimated the whole tiredness factor. I genuinely thought ppl were making a giant fuss. Nope. This is real 🤢

KerryLeanne84 · 10/07/2017 12:45

My scan is at the fertility unit where I had my IUI treatment, so it's on the NHS. They offer early scans to people who've had this treatment, and then if all is okay they discharge you to a midwife. If not okay, you're still on their books for more treatments.

KerryLeanne84 · 10/07/2017 12:46

I think you should go for a private scan though Smeerf if it will set your mind at rest!

smeerf · 10/07/2017 12:47

Ah CL in my head you are floating round on a lilo in the sun, sipping a Shirley Temple and taking afternoon naps in the sun...

Have you got the opportunity to work from home a bit when you get back? I'm finding being at home really helpful for small naps and constant snack breaks.

I booked a scan for Saturday in the end, it's £100 but it'll hopefully give me one less thing to worry about (and I've definitely saved that much on booze and fags over the last few weeks).

CL1982 · 10/07/2017 16:22

@smeerf sadly not as it's over 40*c here and however tiny it may be Wing Nugget says 'nooooope' to the heat!!! We managed a few hours in the sun today though around 3pm when it cooled down but are def spending a lot of time chilling in our room or in the shade. I think we've decided we're not going away in July again somewhere like Turkey 😶

But it's been very relaxing and if you're going to have pregnancy exhaustion and nausea it's best in an air conditioned room I figure!

Yes I think an early scan is a good idea. I'm hoping they'll scan us again at 9/10 weeks personally. It's good to have them keep an eye on things. Sadly no op to work from home as I'm a customer service manager for some very demanding older ladies-it'll be full on but my boss knows I'm pregnant so I'm hoping will cut me some slack if I'm not my usual buzzy self. Also hoping I can keep my mind off it frankly at work! What do you do?

CL1982 · 10/07/2017 16:23

@summer1986 I think relaxed and optimistic is the best way ❤️ I love the Isle of Wight!! We went there for a mini break a few mo that ago as DH wanted to ride the hovercraft (men!).

Lauralou031986 · 10/07/2017 16:27

Oh I'm the same feel guilty because I'm to tired to do things with my lil man and if I snap at him feel even more guilty, excited for the scan on Thursday think I'll be nervous that day aswell, I was the first time

smeerf · 10/07/2017 17:39

@CL1982 Me and my partner run an IT company and we usually work from home (if we're not on site) so it's business as usual for us. Had a massive work emergency today so it's stress central, but it actually distracted me and I'm not feeling too bad!

Turkey in September for our 'baby moon' might not be a great idea then... Might jump on the Isle of Wight bandwagon instead Grin
