Spotting in early pregnancy

Hi all. Not posted on here since baby no 1, five years ago and have had a name change since then. I have a bit of a worry and would like some advice. Sorry in advance if the following is a bit too much information for anyone squeamish. I found out earlier this week that I'm pregnant with my third child. I am really happy but a bit concerned about bleeding and who I can go and see. I had some spotting a bit earlier than my period was due and I now assume it was implantation bleeding. Then, last Sunday, I was about a week late on my period so with that and the earlier spotting I suspected I might be pregnant but then I started getting light bleeding. It never turned into a full period so I did a pregnancy test, just to check, and it was positive. However the bleeding still hasn't stopped. Most days, it's only when I wipe after going to the loo and doesn't stain my underwear but I'm concerned now that it's over a week and I have noticed tonight it seems a bit heavier and darker. I haven't had any painful cramping but I want to see someone anyway to set my mind at ease. My first midwife appt isn't for another two and a half weeks. I know they do this because it's relatively common to lose the baby in the first couple of months but if that does happen, who do I call about it? I did bleed a little in the first trimester with pregnancy number 2 but I had no issues in later pregnancy and she was perfectly healthy when she was born. This time the bleeding seems more and it has been a whole week now. Should I ring the midwife clinic or go see my GP? I normally go to the gym on Mondays but giving it a miss tomorrow as I don't want to do anything too strenuous while I'm still bleeding.

Do you know if the EPU in your area is walk in, or referral? If not, then I would say if you have a phone number for the midwife then maybe call them and see what they suggest. Otherwise the gp. I hope it is nothing at all for you, but understandably very worrying.

I had this with second pregnancy. Called the early pregnancy unit at the hospital and spoke to midwife or left message (it was more than once). I think once I was told to wait and see and another time I was given an appointment to go in for an examination, where they could see everything was fine. This was all still before eight weeks I think. Baby was born healthy and happy.

Hi
I had bleeding from 8 - 15 weeks. I remember going for a scan at around 9 weeks at the EPU. My doctor referred me and they checked if there was a heartbeat etc. No explanation as to why I had the bleeding - although it was not heavy but bright red at times. I am now nearly 6 months pregnant thankfully. Sometimes these things happen. Go to the GP and get referred for your own peace of mind. I hope it all goes well.

I had bleeding when AF was due and also between weeks 5 and 7. It was all manner of colours and was a gush of red one night that made me convinced I'd lost the baby. I'm now 31+1. I was on clomid so managed to get a scan at the clinic at 6 and 7 weeks. I don't think the EPU would scan you before 6-7 weeks. From 6 weeks onwards you could also have a private scan if that's financially an option. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I'll give the midwife a call first and then the GP and see if I can get referred to the EPU. Hopefully it will be nothing. Still no pain so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Im spotting too. Hi i had 3 mc & pg again im 3+ now but one day be4 my 1st scan i had a big gush of red blood but no pain or bits i thought i lost another but when i called E&e they said if no pain or clots its fine. Scary but i waited & bleeding stoped but comes & goes. Now its been like 10days or more & im still getting brown bleed or discharge but midwife says its old blood not to worry as on my scan all was well. Im confuse too why this happening

Notevenmyrealname · 27/06/2017 16:57

I'm still bleeding and it is like a light period now. It was just spotting and brown but is now proper red blood. There's no pain but I'm preparing for bad news. I've got an appt at the EPU tomorrow so we'll see. I had regular spotting every three or four weeks (a bit like a period only brown rather than red blood) for the first few months with my second pregnancy and she turned out fine so hopefully you'll be OK, sweetyboo. Xx

Was everything okay Notevenmyrealname? I have an appointment at the EPU today as I had bleeding last night. I'm 7+3 with IVF pregnancy. Shitting myself is not the word Sad

Notevenmyrealname · 29/06/2017 11:31

Sadly not. I was still bleeding yesterday so they couldn't do a scan but took blood to test for HCG levels. They called back and said the hormone levels were lower than they should be so I have to go back tomorrow for another test. If the hormones have dropped quickly, it's a miscarriage so I'll probably just have to wait it out, if they're dropping more slowly it's more likely an ectopic pregnancy so will need further treatment. Surprisingly, I don't actually feel too bad. Physically I just feel like I'm on a heavy period but I think it's just because it's so early - it's still only at the embryonic stage. I really hope you have better news and everything works out for you. I had spotting regularly for the first few months in my second pregnancy and it turned out fine xx
