Painting The nursery

Hi

Has anyone helped paint the nursery? I'm currently 24 weeks and started doing some painting today. According to NHS there is no evidence to suggest that the paint fumes will harm the baby.

Did anyone else help their partners decorate and everything turn out ok with baby?

Yes I painted it myself. Up a ladder and everything Hmm at about 35 weeks.

I painted our master bedroom at 30 weeks. I'm 36 + 4 now and will be painting the nursery next week when I go on maternity leave.

I didnt, my midwife said best not too. To be honest I readily accepted this without further research!

Crack a window and it'll be fine!

Currently having this discussion with DH. I was going to do it myself, or maybe with a bit of help from him, but he thinks I shouldn't even go in the room! If paint was as dangerous as he thinks it would cause problems for more than just pregnant women, surely.

I did it myself. In fact we moved house literally the day I got the positive test, so I did all the painting whilst pregnant. Just open the window and take regular breaks

I painted when 30 odd weeks with DS and will be set to do the same around 36 weeks this time, once our extension is finished!

OnNaturesCourse · 23/06/2017 22:55

I'm in middle of doing it and at 18w I've struggled but managed.

I struggled with stretching and the heat in the UK lately. I found I needed to stand by the wide open window and drink water a lot more than usual to avoid the fume headache.

That said I have a room that needed completely stripped, holes filled, primed and coated etc. So it was a lot of work with paint stripper etc x

I did loads of painting during pregnancy plus some scrubbing of floorboards.

I'm doing so much painting pregnant! I believe draw the line at gloss paint though; let someone else deal with the solvents.

StylishDuck · 23/06/2017 23:03

I would think emulsion is fine in a well ventilated room with plenty breaks. It's water based. Gloss is solvent based though so avoid that. (I work with chemicals) I'd be more concerned about the climbing ladders tbh.

Had a 2 storey extension built while I was pregnant and I painted everything ( water based paints only) while I was pregnant. No problems.
