Currently 31 weeks pregnant and I was picked up as having low iron levels from my 12 week Booking bloods when my Hb level was 96.

I was started on liquid iron supplements but repeat bloods a month later showed my Hb had dropped lower to 94.

I was then started on Ferrous Fumerate (210mg) two tablets a day but repeat bloods a month later showed my Hb was still only 96.

I'm under Consultant care anyway for other health issues but my midwife at the GP surgery has suggested I may need an IV Iron transfusion. I'm seeing my Consultant this coming Wednesday anyway so my midwife wants me to inform her of my constant low Hb levels.

Is anyone else having this problem and what action is being taken.

Nobody has said to me it causes and risks to the baby or the pregnancy so was just wondering why it needs to be 'fixed' if I'm otherwise generally ok.

I'm having an ELCS if that makes any difference to anything.

This is my second child and when pregnant with DC1 my Hb levels were always between 115-120 so I don't know why they are so low this time around and not responding to medication.
