4 weeks but look 6 months pregnant

Hi everyone,

I'm 4 weeks+5 pregnant. I only found out a few days ago so still taking everything in but one thing I've noticed is how big my tummy is!

I'm usually fairly slim however I'm prone to getting a food baby, especially after carbs!

I've just got in from a BBQ and I'm shocked. My tummy is so swollen and bloated that I look 6 months pregnant already. My tummy is rock hard and pretty uncomfortable!

Is this normal? Does is calm down? Is there anything to relive the bloat?

Thanks x

As someone who is six months pregnant, you really don't look six months pregnant.

BertieBotts · 17/06/2017 23:43

Yes that's not a 6 month looking bump! You'll be sensitive to it because you've just found out, but nobody else will even be able to notice. You could pass it off as a food baby if anyone does.

It does just look like first trimester bloat to me but worth asking, is there any chance you're actually 8 weeks pregnant? Sometimes you can have a small bleed when the first period would have been which sometimes is mistaken for a light period.

Joffmognum · 17/06/2017 23:49

Wait until tomorrow for the bbq to digest. Something you ate may have made you bloated

Teachervoice · 17/06/2017 23:53

Welcome to one of the many wonderful symptoms of pregnancy. I am 20 weeks and the bloat has just started to die down.

You def don't look 6 months though so don't worry about that.

LaurenAC · 17/06/2017 23:59

Thabks everyone and I hope I didn't offend anyone when I said I looked 6 months pregnant! I've just never seen bloat like it!

I did a test which said 2-3 weeks which says translates to 4 weeks so assuming that's correct!

I'm 5 months and twice the size. You said you get food baby and you've been eating at a bbq today - don't fret, it'll be gone in the morning

fluffykitties · 18/06/2017 03:02

It's all bloat I had it real bad! Enjoy it while it is a bloat belly because soon as it gets big and gets bigger it's gets in the bloody way lol

iamreginaphalange · 18/06/2017 05:02

Congratulations on your baby 👶
You don't look 6 months pregnant to me dear and I should know - 35 weeks... you will have eaten something at the BBQ - plus the heat...

glastogal · 18/06/2017 06:22

I bloated straight away too.. seems to go away at different stages for different people, because I was sure it would be gone by now (16+4) and it is still very much with me. It's weird and a feel a bit fraudulent but I've decided to hell with it, I AM pregnant, even if I look further along than I am!! Baby is the right size and that's all that matters really Wink (might be a little fed up of being called massive though!)

Hope yours is just food related though x

AmyLou1988 · 18/06/2017 07:00

Please dont take this offensively but some people tend to get a little bit eager and excited about showing... at 4 weeks + 5 the baby wouldnt possibly look like a bumb its gender isnt even formed yet. You are bloated. Chill out, eat less and exercise more lol.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 18/06/2017 08:15

Please don't eat less and exercise more. Eat healthily and do gentle exercise (unless you're used to doing marathons and then you're probably ok to do a little more than just gentle exercise!!!). Trust me, you look really slim to me and not even 3 months let alone 6 months! You probably feel it more as you're used to being very slim and suddenly have a little amount of bloat (I wish I were that slim when bloated Grin). Good luck with your pregnancy!

TriJo · 18/06/2017 14:56

I'm just under 6 weeks and have a similar level of bloat going on.

needsomesunshineandwine · 18/06/2017 16:33

Looks like early bloating, I had same early stages of pregnancy. Should pass soon 🙂

ohforfoxsake · 18/06/2017 16:36

The heat, white bread, sugar, wind - probably everything but pregnancy.

MamaHanji · 18/06/2017 16:40

When I was pregnant with my first, I didn't have a bump until about 18/19 weeks. But from week 7 onwards, whenever I ate bread, I bloated so much I looked more pregnant than I did when I was 4 months!

eurochick · 18/06/2017 17:04

The higher progesterone levels make you bloat in early pregnancy. It's normal.

RoseVase2010 · 18/06/2017 18:41

I had awful bloating in this pregnancy but now at 18 weeks I actually hardly have a 'real' bump, unless I eat and the food seems to sit on top.

In fact so little bump I'm currently wearing shorts I haven't worn for two years because I thought they we're too small 🤣sadly the same cannot be said for my skinny jeans that were abandoned weeks ago.

CremeDeSudo · 19/06/2017 08:07

I had awful bloating with my first. As soon as I ate anything it expanded and was so uncomfortable and unlike any bloating I had experienced before or since! Felt like you could pop me like a balloon! I was undoing jeans at 9wks and had to move on to maternity by 13. It didn't go away either. In the end the only thing that relieved the discomfort was ginger supplements.

I've just found out I'm 4wks with my second and the roundness has already started. And it doesn't go away in the morning and it doesn't matter what eat. I'm already back on the ginger as I suspected last wk and so far it's just roundness, not discomfort. Fingers crossed!

So try ginger. It's supposed to help with the nausea too I believe? Wink

owltrousers · 19/06/2017 12:19

I'm 10+3 and have a very similar looking belly to you. Mines mostly blat and then hard underneath the surface. Food babies!

mintich · 19/06/2017 12:23

I looked like that in early pregnancy. It's fine, you're pregnant!!! Smile

doodlejump1980 · 19/06/2017 12:44

I was like that early on, ended up with twins! Good luck with that one!! 😁

ELFR · 19/06/2017 20:25

I'm exactly the same. Hugely bloated, I already had a big belly (despite being fairly slim) but now struggling to know what to wear that's not going to give the game away. A man did give me his seat on the tube today which I was very grateful for!

ScotsLamb · 19/06/2017 21:12

I just took a picture today of me at 13 weeks and compared it to 6 weeks. There was a lot of bloat at 6weeks that isn't there now.
