..any suggestions on what I can say my reasons are for not drinking next weekend?

We've got a family do which has been planned for ages, the purpose of which is literally to get drunk and dance. This morning I found out I'm pregnant! I still want to go, and OH has been looking forward to it too.

What can I say? I'm thinking antibiotics, but which ones could I not drink on where the reasons for me being on them wouldn't be obvious if you know what I mean?

You cannot drink alcohol whilst taking metronidazole. It's used to treat mouth abscesses and pelvic inflammatory disease amongst other things. Look it up.

leighdinglady · 17/06/2017 17:01

Cystitis!!! Just came on this morning, but it's reaallly bad! You need to flush it out with water.

People don't question that!

Carley27 · 17/06/2017 17:04

Metronidazole is a good one, I had it a few years ago and the chemist really warned me off alcohol whilst taking them as she said it made her very ill!

Or could you be designated driver?

Carley27 · 17/06/2017 17:05

Oh and congrats! Grin

mallamloll · 17/06/2017 17:22

I think it's best to actually pretend your drinking. Therefore no questions whatsoever

mallamloll · 17/06/2017 17:23

Get diet cokes or lemonade and pretend they are vodka or something. Ask barman for alcohol free cocktails then have a little Dance and be merry

IndianaMoleWoman · 17/06/2017 17:24

Is it your first pregnancy? You might actually feel quite rough by then anyway. Say you're getting over a tummy bug/food poisoning which will also cover you for any nausea/food aversions you might be experiencing.

CremeDeSudo · 17/06/2017 18:15

Second pregnancy. Am only 2 wks!

I've never been designated driver in my entire life so it would awfully suspect if I started now Grin

Fake drinks might be a good call!

I'm disappointed to be missing out but excited too Smile

Thanks all!

You are 4 weeks as it's dated from beginning of last period. 2 weeks from conception. In all honesty, a couple of drinks won't hurt. It's always sooooooo obvious when women are like "I'm on antibiotics" as there's normally a shifty look on their face. I would just tell people you're pregnant but it's early

Oysterbabe · 17/06/2017 19:08

If you say antibiotics you may as well just announce you're pregnant, everyone will instantly know. Pretend to drink.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 17/06/2017 19:22

Can't drink on piriton that you had to take because your hay fever is just sooo bad this year. I did that by accident one. I vomited... a lot...

CremeDeSudo · 17/06/2017 19:24

I didn't know that with the dates!

Yeah I think I prob I might be better off with the fake drinking.

It would be equally suspicious for me to only have one or two on a night out so maybe I'll stick to a glass of wine then "vodka and lemonade"...

Congratulations!
Agree with with above, don't say antibiotics.
I found out I was pregnant over Christmas so I accepted drinks and sipped them. DH would then swap it for me.
I usually drink Gin so DH just got me tonic.
I also drove but parked down the road so no one would see the car.

blueskyinmarch · 18/06/2017 10:20

I have done the fake drinking thing whilst not even pregnant. It is so easy. No one notices if they see you with a glass in your hand. Accept a first alcoholic drink, pretend sip it for a bit then put it down and lose it somewhere. Move on to 'gin' and tonic or whatever and no one will even bat an eyelid. Make sure you or your DH get all your drinks. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

FuckyDuck · 18/06/2017 11:07

Fake drink, not drinking and lying is so much more difficult

Whereland · 18/06/2017 11:09

"I'm on antibiotics" is world wide code for "I'm pregnant"!! Literally no one buys it. Pretend to be drinking

Sparklyuggs · 18/06/2017 12:38

I wouldn't have a couple of drinks at that stage but each to their own.

At 8w I had cystitis at a wedding and that worked well, no one wants to talk about it!

CremeDeSudo · 18/06/2017 19:04

Thank you for the congrats! We're still in shock here.

I think I'll have a small glass of wine and that's it. Hopefully no one will clock it!
