Hi all,

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and had our anomaly scan on Friday - we're having a boy!

During the scan, the sonographer couldn't get good measurements of the ductal arch and aortic thing, and they run parallel (baby was in a bad position and had his arms over his chest). She has referred us to a consultant, but we are stuck in limbo this weekend. We're so, so worried. I've been trying to research what it might mean, but with not understanding what I'm looking for, I'm getting nowhere.

We have booked a private anomaly scan for tomorrow morning at 10am to see if we can get the measurements that were a problem on Friday. My question is - is there anything I can do to ensure baby is in a good position? Any tips?

Many thanks x

We had our 20 week scan repeated because they couldn't get those measurements (or complete the spinal check) due to baby's position. Baby still wasn't in a good place the second time (a fortnight later) so I was made to take a long walk, lie on my left for 5 minutes, then on my right for 5 minutes. Baby moved at the last moment and they were able to do the checks - all was fine.

It's worrying but I'd say wait for your consultant appointment if you can - googling measurements is likely to cause more stress whereas your consultant will be able to give you an immediate answer. Hope all goes well Flowers

Thanks Duggee - we booked a private scan which we had this morning. I was so terrified before it I threw up 😢

The private scan got all the views they said were problems/couldn't get on Friday, sonographer couldn't see any of what the report said and was happy with the scan. I asked if she would have referred us, had she not known about the scan from Friday (we told her before the scan) and she said no. Advised to still see cardiologist (which we will of course) but feel so much calmer!

Oh that's good news Smile

It's scary how much worry children cause, even before they're born! Hope all goes well with the cardiologist
