Pregnancy food cravings - what's yours?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and my cravings for Chinese takeaways are driving me to distraction. I keep imagining scoffing my face with hoisin chicken and spring rolls despite the fact I wasn't remotely fussed about Chinese food before.

What food cravings are you experiencing during your pregnancy?

What on earth even causes it?!

Skips, cheese and onion sandwiches, potatoes (in any form). It changes as I go along!

DovahBee11 · 12/06/2017 01:29

I'm also just over 6 weeks (with #3) and it's been fizzy drinks for me, so to try keep it healthier than really sugary drinks, I've been chugging plain sparkling water like no-ones business!

salsasalsa · 12/06/2017 10:45

Hey, I'm 10+3 and mines fizzy drinks... bread, pasta, cheese, carbs!!! Fizzy sweets... Awful. I'm usually so healthy as well. Mornings are the worst because I just feel nauseas and can't think of anything I want to eat! I've gone off salads and cereal with milk mainly! Ridiculous haha. Hoping my nausea passes today as meant to be going out for an indian with my sister tonight. Grin x

salsasalsa · 12/06/2017 10:45

Ooh and icepops!!

Kikiroo · 12/06/2017 11:53

I've got an insatiable appetite for protein! All the meat NOWWW! Previous to this I had a standard approach to it.. And I've found a penchant for cheddar and strawberry jam sandwiches.. Blush

tootsieglitterballs · 12/06/2017 13:38

Carbs. And not the good kind. First few weeks all I wanted was white bread or toast with butter on, chips and ready salted crisps!

16+3 now, and last week I got an insane craving for pepperarmi dipped in tiramisu....

With my DS I craved fresh and cold fruit and tuna mayo sandwiches, along with ice cold water.

13+1 here and I could eat Yaki udon from Wagamama all day every day.

With my DS (6) I ate a lot of special k and skimmed milk 😋

DuggeeHugs · 12/06/2017 15:37

Oh yes, proper coke cola and pink lemonade lucozade!

SlB09 · 12/06/2017 15:39

Started with the strongest cheddar I could get, then moved onto tomatoes - hard crispy ones eaten like an apple!

Catra · 12/06/2017 18:05

JCleRoux I'm with you on Wagamama. I recreated their Amai Udon dish the other day and could have quite happily eaten several portions in one sitting. I think my cravings extend to most oriental food actually.

Cagliostro · 13/06/2017 13:40

It was all about twiglets for a while. They were the only thing I could bear and I was near tears when I couldn't find any in the shops!

Then a few weeks ago (am now 18wks) I tried some and suddenly felt really sick. Had to get DD to eat hers across the room so I couldn't smell them. I can't imagine ever eating a twiglet again! They are now known as the Traitorous Bastards. Cheesy doritos took over for a while.

Other than that I've never had major cravings that last long (this is baby #3), I get ideas in my head but often once I've had them I feel yuck thinking about them anymore. Examples this time round include a cooked breakfast, French toast and a fish finger sandwich. Massively anticipated and enjoyed until about halfway through the meals :( the nausea has been soooo much worse this time.

My friend mentioned on FB chat last night that she was eating NikNaks and I had to instantly amend my Tesco order. I am looking forward to them massively!

Cagliostro · 13/06/2017 13:41

I am super hungry a lot of the time but can't actually manage to eat much in one go. So I get hungry again and just think about food all the time. Trying to choose decent fresh stuff (my salad just now was yum and I have loads of fresh berries, coconut etc) but sometimes it's all about carbs and more carbs

londonloves · 13/06/2017 14:11

White toast and cheese is basically all I ate during first trimester. Plus the odd pot of anchovies that I absolutely HAD to have or people would die. Now I'm having random cravings for ice cream but they fade before I've organised the procurement of said ice cream!!

londonloves · 13/06/2017 14:12

Also I had a lot of ginger tea early on to help with nausea, and it actually makes me sick now! (25 week)

LapinR0se · 13/06/2017 14:18

Massive aversion to meat here, I can't actually go past the butcher counter it's so bad.
I'm eating quite a lot of vegetarian food, another fan of the stuffed pasta and pesto!

AnyFarrahFowler · 13/06/2017 20:54

Indian food / Thai food - but only the 2 specific dishes I order from 2 specific restaurants. And ice lollies!
