Lifting at work

Hello,

I have just found out I'm pregnant (5w)
I work in education and last week I was asked to help tidy some of the rooms. I was reluctant to lift heavy things (filing cabinets, desks etc) but instead sorted through books. Later in the day I was told that next time I needed to help properly as I was not pulling my weight..

Any advice?

Have you had manual handling training? If not use that as an excuse.

Alternatively, could you speak to the head and let them know? They will have to ensure you arent put in this position again.

When is the next time likely to be? Can you confide in someone who can get you out of jobs like that?

Lifting a desk won't harm your foetus in any way shape or form. It's probably lighter than a 2 year old!

Avoiding lifting in pregnancy isn't always about protecting your baby , it's also about your back and joints , which are softer and more easily damaged.

I'm afraid you'll have to tell someone if you wish to be given lighter duties , I had to do just that much earlier than I would've liked for the same reasons.
