Pre pregnancy I was size 12 on my hips, super tiny waist and size 8 on tops.

Well I'm 16 weeks now and by jee I feel like a whale. I have ballooned everywhere in my middle half, stomach, hips, ribs etc all feel like they are carrying a layer of plump! I'm just getting into my skinny jeans and work trousers as both have a little stretch in them but I can see me giving them up by next week.

I had this lovely pre pregnancy idea that I'd stay slimish until months 6/7 and then just wake up with a all front baby bump.

Have I been tricked into what pregnancy looks like by TV and media, or am I simply a odd ball? I'm not eating more, my habits changed as I pick throughout the day but it's definitely not more than before.

I look so chunky and I was expecting a glow and bump 😖

ONC, you've posted about this before, and said that you have body image issues, or words to that effect.

You are not an odd ball, every pregnancy is different and it is no reflection on you, as long as you are growing a healthy baby and your mental health is ok. And noone has a crystal ball to know how they'll carry etc

You are still getting into your jeans at 16 weeks, that's more than I was doing (and I'm now busting out of the non-skinny mat jeans on the thighs). That is good going for most pregnancies, and says you can't actually have packed much on.

As for glowing. Does it f* exist!

Emma2803 · 08/06/2017 16:37

Glow is a lie!!! I'm only 10 weeks but covered in spots and bags under my eyes!! Unfortunately you are in what is known (probably only by me) as the fat stage, where really you just look a bit fatter, but don't worry you will soon have a lovely bump. Our bodies do store extra fat during pregnancy and that is everywhere, but it's totally normal. Last thing you want to do is deprive yourself of vital nutrients while your body is doing such an important job.

So no you are not an odd ball, this is totally normal! I actually had such a massive bump last time it made my bum look smaller than it actually was in comparison, so every cloud has a silver lining and all that...

My jeans were super tight and extremely uncomfortable at 12 weeks. Sadly my pregnancy ended, so I have no idea how much longer I would have continued squeezing myself into them. As long as baby is healthy that's what matters.

I definitely don't mind, I just wondered if anyone else had this before a true bump appeared, I didn't expect to expand all ways at first lol

I certainly feel like I have more on my thighs and hips now but I have to remember I'm not exercising like i was either so muscle/ fat issues as well.

But I had a definite bit of bump from about 15 weeks

EssentialHummus · 08/06/2017 22:48

28 weeks here and no glow in sight Angry

JuicyCake · 08/06/2017 22:49

KK07, I sometimes wonder what I'd look like now if baby had stuck around...
Similar shape to ONC here. My bum & hips get crazy if I put on weight. Reckon that's where my bump was heading...
I did, however, look amazing! Glowing skin, swishy hair. Men were even noticing me again...

Yup I'm 10 weeks and have put on half a stone already. Mainly in the last 4 weeks I think. I got out all my summer clothes a couple of weeks ago and won't be using any of it this summer! It's an annoying stage where maternity clothes will be too big so have to wait it out with a few odd outfits (today - purple harem pants, black over size tshirt, baggy cardigan and trainers. I have not felt a million dollars)

You have fit into your skinny jeans up to 16 weeks?! You're lucky! Doesn't sound like you've gained much at all, although I understand it will feel worse for you as you know what feels comfortable. However - you are not just pigging out, your body is making a baby. Try to just remember that. You can get back to your pre-baby body post-baby!

37+6 and I can say the only glow you'll be getting is the sweat from the hot flushes. I literally look like a troll and I've recently just come out with really dry and discolouration on my chin!
Stretch marks everywhere and gained about triple my original weight. Don't worry about it just keep yourself and baby healthy that's all that matters:)
