Incompetent Cervix - Cervical Stitches vs Abdominal Stitch

Hi! looking for advice on Stitches related to Incompetent Cervixes. I lost my 2nd Baby Girl at 23 weeks in December 2006. An incompetent Cervix had been diagnosed at 19 weeks (my cervix was 0.5cm thick and 2 cm dilated). A stitch was put in the following day although by that point i was 4cm. Stitch seemed to work and i was sent home and all was ok for 3 weeks until i then lost loads of blood, rushed to hospital and found stitch hadnt held. I was put on bedrest in hospital but infortunately i got an infection and lost my little girl 10 days later. Although im not ready to start trying again at the moment i am looking into the options i have for next pregnancies. I have been told i can have a preventative cervical stitch at 12-14 weeks or have an abdominal stitch before i get pregnant. I am slightly tainted by cervical stitches as the emergency one failed before but realise that preventative are probably more successful. Im so scared that this may happen in a next pregnancy so i want to make sure that i make the best decision on what option to choose. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on either option?

I had 2 cervical stitches after losing my first dd like you. Both worked for and I now have a ds 13 and a dd 14.5.

Good luck - have no experience of an abdominal stich.

Did you have the stitch at 12 weeks? Did you have to have bedrest all the way through? What kind of monitoring did you have?

I have got a daughter (2) who i had no probs (tho delivery a nightmare)with so docs are abit unsure why i had this this time

Sorry didn't get back to you before - kids home and overtook my computer!!!

Had both the stitches between 12 -13 weeks. Bed rest on for 48 hours after the stitch was put in, with the second, dd was only 13 months. I was scanned and checked every few weeks.

With the second I actually caught an infection which caused the waters to break again (nothing to do with the cervix) at 30 weeks, so my son was born 10 weeks early but absolutely fine - no problems, her is now 13 on Friday, 5' 11" and size 11 shoes, he did OK!!!!

The stitch was difficult to get out - but only because the surgeon who put it in did not detail it properly, so there was some tugging etc (TMI if I say anymore!)

Any other questions please ask.
