When to have drink before scan?!

So tomorrow I have to have an internal scan to see if my pregnancy is ectopic. I've had them lots of times before (ivf!) but it causes me issues because you have to have a full bladder but I have a weak bladder!
Several times in the past I've had to ask them to stop and run to the loo! It's embarrassing!
So I figure if I can drink water at the right time to reach my bladder for my scan, I won't me desperate when the scan starts.
My scan is at 10.30
Please advise!

They say an hour before to give it time. Could you possibly have an internal scan instead?

Sure I read it takes about 30 minutes to reach the bladder, down a bottle of water 330ml 40 mins before appointment I find this is more comfortable then sipping it.
Make sure you're not dehydrated so drink plenty the day before as well. HTH

Transvaginal I didn't think you needed full bladder. I went for early abdominal scan with full bladder, but it was too early so told me first things first go to the loo then we'll try transvaginal. One of best pees of my life 😬

Dani00 · 08/06/2017 08:13

When I had a transvaginal one they told me to have an empty bladder.

You don't need to have a full bladder for an internal scan, you need an empty one else the bladder will get in the way of what they need to see.

Bubbasmama2017 · 08/06/2017 08:55

I've had an internal and they asked me to empty my bladder before. I also have a very small or weak bladder and get anxious about accidents so when I have ultrasounds I drink a small cup of water about 10 mins before the scan and they always say my bladder is full. They can only ask you to fill it further so don't stress I know it's hard thinking you're going to wee on them or something Blush

I was asked to empty my bladder before for a internal. External scan you're advised to drink 300-500ml minimum a hour beforehand x

NanooCov · 08/06/2017 09:13

You don't need a full bladder for a transvaginal scan. All the best x

Oooblimey · 08/06/2017 10:22

It is transvagnal and I was definitely told to have a full bladder! I've had ivf twice so have had the pleasure (?!!) of many of them and have had to had full bladder for them too. That's the problem, it's mortifying lying there legs akimbo suddenly thinking t you're going to wee on the poor person performing the scan!! Blush
Any way, I'm now sat in the waiting room having drank 400ml of water half an hour ago, so hopefully that will be fine. Thanks for advice x

One thing that made me slightly less nervous was my sister saying "they see all sorts I'm sure someone weeing is the worst of their problem". Good luck!

How did it go @oohblimey really hope it's not ectopic and all is 👍🏻

moggle · 08/06/2017 20:18

Hope it was all good news. We have our viability scan on Monday for our latest FET. Weird, I've had one fresh and four frozen cycles and have never been told to have a full bladder before internal scans!

Hotpinkangel19 · 09/06/2017 18:29

All my internal scans needed an empty bladder????
