Another boy's name question

We are really struggling to come up with boys' names! What do you think of the name Christian? We love the name but - ironically - we're atheists. And don't want a name that immediately makes people think of religion. My sister said she loves it, my Dad and a friend both said it made them think immediately of Jesus. Help!

I like it amd I'm not one.

fryalot · 19/03/2007 13:46

I love it. I'm an atheist. However, I think probably people would assume that you were christian, even though they may not ask you which church you attend, or whatever.

I love the name though.

Bucketsofdynomite · 19/03/2007 13:52

I think it's nice and he seemed like a nice chap, why not? I wouldn't worry about it, there are plenty of Judiths out there from non-Jewish parents. My DS is Noah and we're not Christians or Jewish.
Have a read of Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan - might put you off the name (hero)or set it in stone.

Twinkie1 · 19/03/2007 13:54

I wouldn't think of it as particularly religeous funnily enough - do think would be called Chris though when older so you have to like that - DH is called that so I like it too!!

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 13:55

i am not religious either and i love th ename christian

steinermum · 19/03/2007 13:55

I really like it and personally know two Christians who are quite cool boys. Also, Christian O'Connell on Virgin Radio's Breakfast Show is a favourite person among my two boys

scorpio1 · 19/03/2007 13:56

what about Crispin (similar sounding but no association problems for you)

naturelover · 19/03/2007 13:59

Crispin is a nice suggestion - thanks. Will ask dh what he thinks.

I used to have a huuuuuuuuge crush on a Christian... ooh he was very very attractive. I like the name and don't think of it as being religious.

Would not be too sure about Crispin (no offence meant to anyone).

There's always Christopher.

Troutpout · 19/03/2007 14:08

cute

fortyplus · 19/03/2007 14:08

ds2's best friend is called Christian - family not particularly religious.

His Grandad was German - it's a popular name there.

steinermum · 19/03/2007 14:16

I know a Crispin who got called Rice Krispie in junior school and Krispy Kreme at secondary. He HATED his name and nowadays always introduces himself as Chis.

liquidclocks · 19/03/2007 14:18

How about spelling it Kristian?

steinermum · 19/03/2007 14:18

Sorry, that should be Cris
