Cots/Snuzpod/Moses Basket

Pretty much it really as above! I'm a FTM due in September, just recently moved to a 1 bed house so not ideal but we have a large bedroom and plenty of storage.
My question is do I buy a cot to start with a Moses basket for the first 6 months, or a next to me crib which I will then have to buy a cot at 6 months.
So much choice I just don't know what is best?
I have been given a sleepyhead head so plan to use this to.
Would love to know what people buy.

If you have a Sleepyhead, you don't need a Moses basket - you can put the Sleepyhead on any flat surface, including in a crib, cot or bed (on the mattress), on the floor, or even a table. We move ours around, and have a large footstool that it fits nicely on.

If you have enough room next to your bed, you could get a crib/cot that has a removable side, and put the Sleepyhead in there at night. That gives you the option of a bedside or standalone crib.

We have the Snuzpod which is great but rather narrow. If i was buying now I'd get the Cozee bedside crib because it can be used as a travel cot too, unlike the Snuzpod. (The Cozee is new and wasn't available when we bought the Snuzpod.)

Hi presh1234
Babies tend to go into cots from 4-6 months,I think because of cot deaths, so it suggests a Moses basket/crib from birth.

I have bought a sleepyhead which is safe from birth, they are expensive but have good reviews, there are cheaper pods you can buy.

Most cribs only last 6 months anyway, that's why I'm finding it hard to decide, plus I have limited space!

Congratulations by the way, I'm a ftm too and feeling overwhelmed by everything! (Older mum too at 37). Good luck 😊

If you get it, let us know how you get on!

Cots don't cause "cot death" (more commonly called SIDS now). There are a few reasons newborns don't go into a cot straight away: firstly, the advice is for baby to sleep in the same room as you for the first 6 months (to reduce risk of SIDS) and not everyone has space for a cot in their bedroom. The other reason is that newborns are often not able to settle in a cot, as it's too big after having been all cosy in the womb! So they are usually happier in something smaller like a Sleepyhead (or Cocoonababy or similar) or Moses basket or carrycot.

I'm just going to use my Moses basket after just going into Mothercare this morning to have a look at the snuzpod as I quite liked the look of it online, I was disappointed by the size, it's quite small imo.. my Moses basket is about the same size as the snuzpod
