When to start buying baby bits?

Title says it all really....when did you allow yourself to start buying in stuff for baby? Did you get the small things earlier on? I'm bit superstitious and don't want to buy to early I guess

Think I was over 7 months pregnant when we ordered most things. Enjoy your shopping!

From about 25 weeks I think it was.
I don't need to buy anything this time round.

I've got the be honest and say I started very early! I found out at 4 weeks and I think I'd bought a few bits and bobs as early as 6 or 8 weeks! Only some neutral babygrows. We did get out Moses basket at 12 weeks and our pram at 16 because they were on offer.

I really do get the superstitious thing and I can't imagine how horrible it must be to have to pack away your baby things. However, I just took the view that if anything is going to happen, really and truly it can and will happen at any time. It's a completely personal choice lovely. Good luck!

After 20 week scan.

I got the first baby grow at 10 weeks but was very nervous about it! Now 16 weeks and starting to pick up bits and pieces as they pop up second hand on my local FB group. Will starter doing proper shopping and nesting from around August onwards as life is too damn busy beforehand. Also want to have 20 week scan some before major purchases.

With both babies I started adding things to my supermarket shop pretty early on. I added a packet of wipes/different varieties of nappies/vests and clothes in different sizes/bath stuff/nappy cream etc. Adding one item once a week made no different to our budget and by the end we had a decent stockpile.
Bigger items we bought from 20 weeks.

We bought our first babygros straight after the 20 week scan with DS. Got the pram fairly soon after that & then did a major purchase every month & picked up small bits in between. From about 30 weeks I started picking up a pack of nappies & wipes with my weekly shop so I had a few in ready. We picked up lots of things second hand on eBay. We saved loads of money & meant we could get better quality than if we were buying new.

This time round we don't need much. Just a crib as we borrowed one last time that's now been sold & few babygros & some long sleeve vests if it's another boy & lots more clothing if it's a girl!

We bought a little teddy bear on hols after the 20 week scan.
Then a massive John Lewis order at about 30 weeks with everything in it

I think I got a couple of bits in the sales at 12 weeks after the scan. I'm not superstitious and if something had happened then spending £10 on baby clothes wasn't going to make a difference. I did a lot of research on prams, car seats and cots then bought them between 20 and 30 weeks, I'm 32 weeks now and don't have the energy to go around all the shops testing prams. I'd highly recommend getting things secondhand, especially things like playmats, bouncers etc which are used for such a short time.

i'm 34weeks and have just started buying bits but from my ante natal classes etc i'm a bit late to the party! i would say after your 20w scan is fine :)

good luck

Jessiecat27 · 03/06/2017 14:45

I'm 16 weeks and we haven't bought anything yet, it's more so because we have no storage until we move which is probably a good thing or I'd go overboard! I reckon buying little bits with your shopping is a very good idea though and I may actually start doing that! We've got a choice of two second hand prams from family along with all the bigger bits and clothes so we don't HAVE to buy anything else but I know we will!

I started after my 20 week scan
