How many tests?

How many tests did everyone do before they convinced themselves they were actually pregnant?

I've had 4 positive FRERs over 2 days, no period, very sore boobs, outbreak of awful acne on my chin. According to my dates I am roughly 4-5 weeks pregnant. Today I went to a Sure Start 'booking in' type appointment where they gave us a talk about pregnancy and I was given a proper midwife appointment for the start of July.

I just feel really panicky that I've somehow messed up and am not actually pregnant. Thinking I should do some more tests and different brands but then if I do and some come back negative I'll be devastated and also I'll probably get into a cycle of buying tests every week, spending a fortune and obsessing about the darkness of the lines. The reason I used FREE in the first place is that they are supposed to be the most sensitive anyway?

It's my first baby and I just feel so worried that it hasn't been officially confirmed by the doctor. I feel really irrational but just wondered if anyone else felt the same?! Shock

I'm also having a lot of lower back aches and pains which again I know is normal but just constantly on edge that my period is about to turn up?!

Hopefully in a month you'll be vomiting regularly to reassure yourself Grin

I had the panic between 16-24 weeks when the symptoms disappeared Shock

First three pregnancies, more tests than I can count and often multiple times each day. Fourth pregnancy and I waited a fortnight to even test and have only done the one.

I know and I'll be cursing that when it happens I bet!! The whole thing is just such a (happy) head f**k!!

On one hand I'm thinking just go and buy a load and do them tomorrow and on the other hand I just think if I start that cycle I'll never get over it!

I took 3 tests and every day I would look at them to tell myself yes you're pregnant! After the 12 week scan when symptoms had disappeared and I Was to early to feel baby move, I would look at the scan pic and test every morning!

fizzytonicplease · 01/06/2017 22:43

Not test every morning ( that would Have cost me a fortune!) I meant looked at my tests every morning Grin

hmyh23 · 01/06/2017 22:45

Yes I've kept mine and also took photos so I can keep looking at them. It's such an odd thing that one minute I'm fine and happy and the next I'm freaking out thinking I've imagined the whole thing!

I bought a job lot of 50 early tests. We were ttc for 5 yrs so go through them, bought 100 more and went for it. Had IVF so did a test every day after transfer waiting hoping for a line. When I got my 'one and only' I kept re testing still for a good month or so. I think until 8 weeks scan when we heard the heartbeat.

Do what makes you feel confident.

I'm 7 weeks with Baby No 2 and I forget and then think and oh maybe I'm not pregnant! I've had appt with midwife and that was surreal.
With dd1 I bled a lot and so had 3 scans before 12 week one so I knew there was something in there - this time it feels like there isn't because I haven't seen it.
Good luck with the pregnancy sounds like you'll be a good mum! The worry gets worse! X

fizzytonicplease · 01/06/2017 22:55

It's completely normal to feel like that, Ive gone from looking at test/scans to convince myself I am pregnant, to now looking at my son who is nearly 2.5 years old and I can't believe he is mine and have to convince myself I am a Mummy!

kel1234 · 01/06/2017 22:56

I did a cheap test in the evening as I realised I was late. That was positive, so just because I wanted to read 'pregnant' and how many weeks on a clearblue digital, I did one of them the next day, first wee of the day. My dh wasn't there, which upset me. And they came in a pack of 2 anyway, so when he was there I did the other one just because. So 3 in total.

mummabubs · 02/06/2017 08:12

As soon as I got my first positive test result I stopped testing (I know I'm probably in the monitory here!) I'd done two within the week before that were both negative so by the time I got the positive result I was 6 days late for period, I never tested before period was due. I guess I figured that the chance of an early test detecting pregnancy was reduced so I wouldn't have trusted a negative result at that time anyway!

I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms at all until 8 weeks, then the glory of morning sickness kicked in (and I'm still being sick most mornings at 22 weeks!) I just figured in those initial 8 weeks that my period still not showing up was as good a sign as any that I was still pregnant! I'd honestly advise against buying more tests- other than it keeping you in the cycle of anxiety once you're past a certain point the level of pregnancy hormone is actually so high that the tests will read negative anyway. Congrats OP, hope your midwife appointment offers some reassurance 😊 x

Thinks it's perfectly normal to go to your first scan almost expecting there to be nothing despite doing millions of tests Grin

Oysterbabe · 02/06/2017 08:21

Just the one this time. With my first I took one a week until my 12 week scan.

Jessiecat27 · 02/06/2017 08:41

I took three! Two from one pack and I convinced myself it was a dodgy batch so I went and got another from a different make! I still have to remind myself now and I'm 16 weeks today!

hmyh23 · 02/06/2017 15:40

Thanks for your replies everyone!! I did 2 more today (different brand) so I'm drawing the line now and not doing any more 😂😂. I feel and look terrible today so that's reassuring 🖒🖒

I'm exactly the same OP. Ive just had IVF and no idea what its like to be pregnant. I cant assure myself i am yet.

hmyh23 · 02/06/2017 16:10

In my warped logic because I've done 2 different brands I'm now more convinced it's happening. I might pay for an early scan at 8 weeks if I'm still super paranoid by then!

Dragonfly85 · 02/06/2017 18:41

I have only taken one so far but as I was 5 days late it came up pregnant almost straight away so I knew it must be correct but I will take the other one next week before I go to the doctors just in case
