Leg pains - anyone else suffered?

My friend is 24 weeks and several times this week has had pains in her leg. They last a couple of hours then go away, with no lasting effect. She said it wasn't like cramp, and she was worried about DVT.

Her midwife only works on Tuesdays (helpful!) and NHS Direct couldn't help. She's heard that it could be the baby pressing on a nerve ending and causing the pain. Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why it happens?

Could be sciatica. I had it quite bad with ds and occassionaly with dd. It is due to baby pushing on the sciatic nerve I think. For me it sent a shooting pain down the back of my leg or sometimes both of them. Sometimes it was just a dull ache throught my leg. If it got bad, I would have a jump about and shake my legs out to the side to try to get baby off the nerve.

Mine was always later though after about 30 weeks when baby was bigger.

definately needs a mention to her MW when she is available.

I have spd and the pain goes round my hips and down the inside of my thighs - since 20 weeks pg. Rest is the only thing that helps. Now to top it all off I get leg cramps in the night with pains shooting up my legs!

The spd pain in my thighs feels like what I would imagine dvt to feel like - like a really horrible ache. some people call it toothache legs!

I would recommend getting a physio referral and lots of rest.

Paracetomol helps - I have been prescribed paracetomol & codeine which gets rid of the pain but makes me really dizzy - so not great!

Oh and sciatica too - but I find those are more sharp pains shooting down the backs of my legs and struggle to put my feet on the ground!

Thanks Katybird The only thing that will make it better is giving birth!

At least it's all in a good cause. Have you got long to go?

At least there's not long to go! Hope it all goes well and quickly, I'm only 17 weeks so a long time to wait yet .
