Reduced movements - too early to worry?

I'm only 21+3. I've been feeling movements consistently for the last week, numerous times a day and always lots before I go to bed.

I know you can't really monitor movement this early, so I haven't been paying it a huge amount of attention but definitely recognised a pattern of baby being active after 9pm.

I didn't feel anything before bed last night, although I had felt a few movements throughout the day. I still haven't felt anything this morning.

I've tried lying down and drinking Lucosade. I've been awake on and off since about 6am and not felt anything.

Is this normal? I know they are small and have a lot of space, just seems weird that I've felt something every single day and now nothing. I don't want to bother my midwife and look like a paranoid first time mum!

I had the same concern at a similar stage and my midwife told me it wasn't anything to worry about and baby had probably just changed position and was kicking a bit that was harder to feel like the placenta.

At 21+3 I wouldn't worry. Movement monitoring is advised to start in the third trimester.

I had lots of off and on movement in the second trimester - it usually just means they're kicking you somewhere you can't feel.

Hi Lemondrop99

I remember when I was 22 weeks pregnant, I woke up in the morning and hadn't felt any movement when normally did, I tried orange juice, water, chocolate and was freaking out a bit.

I called the hospital and went in for monitoring and sure enough they found his heartbeat straight away and I was made to feel silly. He had been so active the day before so he must have turned away and was resting. He picked up after that.

Try not to worry too much but if you're worried definitely call your maternity department. Like you said they are still very small at this stage, so it is hard to tell sometimes. Cold drink and lots of sugar and a lay down and see what happens 😘.

Maybe come late lunch time you're still worried I'd call them x

Ah ha, I seem to have got some movement with a cold drink and lying on my left! I was feeling the kicks centrally all week. Now I've just felt them right over on the left hand side, slightly more 'muffled' movements too. So yes, I think baby has shifted to a totally different spot which caused the change in movement. Phew

Thanks to all who replied, you stopped me panic calling the midwife too early and looking like a idiot 🙈😆

I had a similar experience at 23weeks. I'd ring your midwife and get advice. They told me to leave work and go home, drink some full fat coke, eat a mars bar and lay on my left side for two hours and then to give them a ring back. I arrived home in floods of tears, did everything they asked them the wee rascal was wriggling about in no time. Rather than you panicking give them a ring and they will give you the best advice. Everything is probably fine.

Frizziee · 23/05/2017 09:32

Ah, it's wee legs could be tucked under your placenta hence the muffling.

Leavesandburies · 23/05/2017 09:45

I think it's from about 28wks onwards. At 21wks many people haven't even felt a kick let along regular ones. Baby is very small and a shift in position could have them disappear for a day or so. I personally wouldn't give it another thought.

Haven't felt much all day and now had some brown discharge. Text the midwife and she said to pop in and get checked. I swear I'll have gone grey before this baby even gets here!

Brown discharge I would definitely get checked out. Hopefully all is well though!

BringMeTea123 · 23/05/2017 17:11

Hope everything is ok!! X

Lemondrop99 · 23/05/2017 17:29

Back home now and all is ok. Baby's heartbeat checked, plus my blood pressure and urine. Midwife said it'll be interesting to know where my placenta is (won't know until anomaly scan on Friday). She said the brown discharge was likely caused by constipation straining. My MAU are so lovely, it's the second time I've had to go (went first time as a fall) and they've been so nice both times. Never made me feel silly or like I'm wasting their time.
