Heart and lung check

Hi! At my booking in appt I was asked to book an appt with a GP for a heart and lung check which needed to be done before 16 weeks.

I didn't seem to be able to find much online about it so just wondered if anyone could enlighten me. I booked it with a male GP who I've never met but took the appt as just getting an appt is miracle at our surgery. Reading online it looks as though this could include a breast check... does anyone know if this happens also? Might think about requesting a female Dr if so.

Thanks

I've never heard of this before. Are you in the U.K.? Do you have a health condition?

Hi. I'm in the U.K. With no health problems. I had a miscarriage at the beginning of last year and was not told about it at that booking in appt so presumed it was a new thing. She mentioned it is to assess whether I can have gas and air in labour but I don't know anything other than that and didn't think to ask.

Never heard of this, and I'm pregnant with my fourth! (5th pregnancy)

Weird. I've never heard mention of this and I certainly didn't have it

3 babies here - youngest is almost 6 months - and I've never heard of this.

Sounds strange if you've got no underlying health conditions that might affect your heart or lungs.

I had my son 3 and a half weeks ago, didn't have gas and air for more than 10 minutes (dried my mouth out and I hate that feeling so I stopped using it) but I did have the gas and air all be it for ten minutes and I have a heart murmur and asthma, I was never checked and I'd never heard of this but there's no harm in them checking you x

Thanks for all your replies!

It all seems a bit odd so I'll just go with it. Think I may have a water infection so at least I can ask and get sorted for that as well if I do.

Bit odd no one has ever heard of it? Is it the one they do to see if you've been smoking recently? Maybe they call it heart and lung so it's by stealth?!

pa55methecake · 23/05/2017 21:06

Haha maybe she didn't believe I was a non smoker. I did the carbon monoxide breath test thing and that was all good.

Well I got to the bottom of it, it's something which our area brought in a year ago. Ended up with female GP who happened to be pregnant and said she didn't think it was necessary. Said she'd been doing it for a year and never noticed any issues with anyone saying generally a heart if lung problem would've been picked up before now.
