38+1 and my sore nipples have come back with a vengeance but ten times worse! I can't bear anything touching them at all! Even the air! No leakage but lots of crusty flaky stuff which I've been removing with a warm flannel.
Has this happened to anyone else at this stage? Any recommendation to help alleviate the pain? I'm in agony Sad

I'd see GP or midwife about that. Doesn't sound normal to me... alternate hot and cold flannels for a few minutes? Cabbage leaves in the bra are recommended for mastitis so maybe worth a try. No idea if that works!

Could it be mastitis before milk comes in? Never thought of that. I have mw tomorrow so will ask. Thanks for replying

My guess would be thrush, but you obviously need a midwife's attention as this sounds painful!

It could be Mastitis OP... my mum got it when not even pregnant ! X

That doesn't sound like mastitis. But it definitely could be thrush. Nipple thrush is agony. But fixable with cream and worst case - if it's persistent - oral medication.

Midwife said that the nipple pain is normal at this stage, and they the flaky stuff is dried colostrum! I've not experienced this on previous pregnancies as I didn't produce any milk, so hopefully means that I can breastfeed this time.

Thank you for all your replies

Hi OP, I've had this too and much on than earlier than you! I use these pads which you can freeze or heat, I bought mine from Mothercare but I've also seen them in Mamas and Papas. Doesn't cure it but definitely helps provide some relief! Smile
