Broody at 46

I've recently turned 46 and am feeling incredibly broody. I have a 17 yr old son and 5 year old daughter. My partner of 18 months is 40 and has no children. He's amazing with mine and would make a fantastic father. I just feel if I'm being realistic I'm too old to consider this.

How are your periods etc?

Oh blimey. I'm 47 with a 5 year and honestly it took a lot more out of me even at 42. It took so much longer to recover than with my previous births. I think being pregnant again would finish me off....

I had ds at 43 with a new dh. .
Have ttc since he was a year old and after 3 chemicals and a mc at 8 weeks I have given up. .
Google has told me that thin uterine lining is a problem when older not just egg quality . Something to look into if you decide to give it a go!

I had first in late 20's and turned 41 month after 2nd. I have to say I found 2nd much easier and motherhood more enjoyable. I definitely don't feel my age though

If your periods are still regular and you ovulate then yes, perfectly possible to conceive. I've managed to conceive 4x between the ages of 39-43 with very little effort. But, egg quality is a big issue, and obviously the possibility of chromosomal issues increases pretty sharply. I don't think it's uncommon to feel broody in your late forties, one last hoorah, so to speak, and particularly as your partner is younger and doesn't have children.

Out of my four pregnancies, I've had two mmc around 8 weeks, and one at 14 weeks due to Edwards/Patau syndrome (waiting for test results for a definite diagnosis), and one live birth. Now having to decide if I can bear to try again at 43, knowing that the chances of a pregnancy progressing successfully aren't brilliant.

You might be one of the lucky ones, but maybe set yourself a cut off point where if it hasn't happened you'll stop trying?

I have three children 17, 13 and 4 and I am 50 this week!. I had the last at 45 . the last was not planned and was a bit of a shock but wouldn't change her for the world, I had an easy pregnancy and birth was ok. But long term you got to think when your child starts school how will you feel. My child starts school in September and I will be 50! at the nursery most of the mums could be my daughters so you do you feel your age when they start growing . Also life is changeable my husband left me two years ago so now I am alone with three children and it is hard work. But again you have a loving husband and you sound like you are a great mum so if you feel healthy and have the money and love go for it. Good luck
