Hi yummymummy

Yes i had 1 with my last baby & have 1 on monday i flipping hate them they make me feel ill even if i feel ok. U have to wait for the results & they'll monitor the baby more regurly if positive, if baby is on the large size they might offer u a c section.

had this with both my girls and was told pretty much straight away that nothing had shown.

I had the GTT at 28 weeks (I have a high BMI). Had the test on the Thursday and got the results in the follow-up consultant's appt on the Tuesday. It was clear, but the test is pretty unpleasant - also made me feel sick.
I'm now booked for home birth, but, even though the GTT was fine, I've had to have more monitoring and scans than usual - in case it was a big baby.

Ewwww no. Why does it make u feel sick?? Is it cos of the glucose drink u have to have? Do u have to drink alot? Ill be ok to drive home after wont i? Im going on my own x.

You have to fast from midnight (no liquids either.) Then when you get there they'll do a blood test, then make you drink a cheap version of lucozade, wait for a bit then take another blood test. Sometimes not having food or drink for that long can make you feel ill, it does me, i've gotta go on my own as well. But if you feel ok i don't think that driving home will cause problems.

Good luck to anyone else who has to have a gtt test.

Hi Charlotte

Thats like me i too have high bmi but also have history of big babies (my 1st was 10lb 8oz) my test is this coming monday & have consultant appt on the tues so i'm hoping all ok cos my new bump is showing signs of being off the scale!!!

CharlotteConstance · 20/03/2007 17:27

How did you all get on?

cupcakesgalore · 20/03/2007 18:24

I've got to have another one of these too. Only cos DS1 was 30g over the guidelines indicating the need for a GTT - grrr. Last one made me feel shockingly unwell because I still get bad morning sickness and I hate lucozade!

spangly · 20/03/2007 19:03

I'm having two for some reason - one at 16weeks and one at 28 weeks. I'm definately not looking forward to it. I hate Lucozade
First test is Friday. I'm only having a blood test after the glucose - it has to be within an hour of you drinking it apparently.
Fingers crossed for negative results all round.

My test was negative which i knew it would be. However had my 28 week scan today & the bump is 2 1/2 weeks ahead of my due date. So its official i just have big boys gonna monitor me & i've asked if he gets too big i want the bump induced due to health risks.

Hi I've had to have 3 GTT's this pregnancy, I have a high BMI, am now 32 wks and have been told baby is off the scale for length and weight, am having another GTT on Thursday. My hospital use original Lucozade (which does help) it's horrible anyway, but better than the cheaper ones. It usually takes 2-3 days to get the results back. You have a blood test then drink glucose, then have another blood test 2 hours later. It's not too bad, just the 2 hour waiting around that's a pain as they usually prefer you not to leave the waiting area as you are pregnant and fasting some women occasionally faint.
