IVF - did you/are you having boy or girl?

I have secondary infertility and after 3 years ttc naturally we are now hoping to move on to IVF. We have a beautiful almost 8 year old DD (natural conception) and my DP is getting carried away with himself saying IVF (without ICSI) is more likely to produce boys, and how exciting it will be for him to experience having a son etc.. Hmm I would like to think it's all genuinely down to chance and we'll have a wonderful surprise at the end (if it works)

Just out of interest, if you had standard IVF, did you have a girl or boy? What day was your transfer?

There is a suggestion that boy embryos are faster growing and so clinics might put these back as they look like better developers where they have multiple embryos to choose from. I know plenty of folk with ivf girls though.

Thanks for replying. Did you not have ICSI?

We had ICSI and I am 25 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. We are delighted to have had a successful cycle as it is a gruelling process. The chance of having a boy with ivf may be higher but there is still the chance of having a girl so you will still have a surprise if successful. Good luck.

I know someone with twin girls (non identical), a boy and a girl and three with boys (one of which was ICSI). I'm currently pregnant with my IMSI baby but don't know what it is yet : )

Ilovewillow · 17/05/2017 11:12

We had IVF for our first who was a girl and FET for our second and he's a boy!

Gribbie · 17/05/2017 11:14

ICSI - one of each 😊

NotAnotherUserName5 · 17/05/2017 11:23

Not me, but my friend has ivf and had a boy.

Good luck Flowers

Icsi - boy

Bear2014 · 17/05/2017 12:09

We have an IVF (not ICSI) girl and currently pregnant with a boy. We probably know more boys born through IVF, including 3 sets of boy twins, but also some girl twins and plenty of other girls. I wouldn't get too carried away!

Bear2014 · 17/05/2017 12:10

Ours were both day 5 transfer, one fresh and one FET.

Naughty1205 · 17/05/2017 12:17

We have a boy and a girl both from IVF not ICSI

GirlcalledJames · 17/05/2017 12:59

It's only a very slightly increased ratio of boys to girls, not a guarantee!

Lemondrop99 · 17/05/2017 18:12

I know two couples who had IVF and both had girls

bumpsadaisy11 · 17/05/2017 18:18

I had ivf with icsi & had a beautiful little boy Smile

RainbowChasing · 17/05/2017 18:46

Well we're not finding out the sex with our IVF baby, but I know many couples who have had IVF and most have had girls. The ratio is probably around two thirds girls, one third boys based on these couples.

kizzle · 17/05/2017 20:52

I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant with an ivf baby, but kept the sex a surprise. I will let you know in around 11 weeks!
I have 2 friends with ivf baby boys though.

TipBoov · 17/05/2017 21:51

One of each! Both were from the same cycle, but DD was frozen for a few years.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 17/05/2017 22:12

I have a 9 year old girl through ICSI.

Good luck with your treatment!

VillageFete · 18/05/2017 11:18

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I've told him to calm down! To be honest i'd be happy with an alien after all this heartache of secondary infertility. It's just nice to know it's not massively skewed and there's an (almost) equal chance of either.

Kizzle Congratulations! You're having a girl, aren't you? Wink Hope it all goes well for you. x

It's 50/50% with anything in my opinion ☺️.
& thank you, but we aren't sure on the sex of the baby. Wanted to keep it a surprise - we've waited 4 years to get where we are so the added surprise of not knowing the sex until it's born is a bonus! ☺️

numberseven · 18/05/2017 15:57

ICSI (FET), currently 29 weeks pregnant with a boy.

My friends who did IVF had:

  • girl twins
  • boy twins
  • boy / girl twins
  • girl
  • girl
  • girl

eurochick · 18/05/2017 20:57

Mine wasn't icsi, just straight ivf.

user1486334704 · 21/05/2017 17:43

Currently 25 weeks with a boy via ICSI - the fifth embryo of five (4th transfer - 4th and final transfer they replaced 2 embryos - one stuck)

I m/c'd at 10 weeks on cycle 2 - paid for chromosome tests on the embryo post m/c and he was a boy too 😪
