Suspected obstetric cholestasis

Hi all

I was sent to hospital for monitoring at 36+2 after raised blood pressure at routine 36wk check. Hospital monitored me and took bloods - some of the readings were 'abnormal' so was asked to return for repeat tests and monitoring two days later.

I returned and this time, was told that I had raised LFTs consistent with obstetric cholestasis, and I needed to return again two days later for another set of repeat bloods. If OC is confirmed they are talking about inducing me.

The strange this is, after a lot of googling, the main symptom of OC is itching and scratching which I don't really have (or any that I do have is very mild, and I just put down to a normal pregnancy symptom). The midwife at hospital was also really surprised I am not itching and said that usually women come to them with the issue, not the other way round!

Has anyone ever been diagnosed with OC without the itching? It's really confusing.

I feel the same! This one is my first so I'm so out of my depth it's unreal. But all will be fine - hope you feel better soon!

Shit hospital have just called they want me in this Monday now to be induced as my levels are rising

Catlover1812 · 19/05/2017 17:54

Ah good luck for Monday. It's all such a whirlwind but you're in the best place and they take it so seriously. I'm also being induced on Monday so let us know how it goes. I feel like I've had no time to prepare. Madly washing baby clothes now! X

I threw up when the midwife told me 😂

Do they need smaller baby clothes at 37 weeks or normal newborn? Both of mine have been 7.5 & 7.9 born just after 40 weeks so I don't know Shock

Catlover1812 · 19/05/2017 18:22

I've just gone for newborn size, but a few tiny sized vests and hats as I heard they can be big on them. I think all newborn clothes look big on newborns anyway! X

They do don't they.. I might shoot to Tesco tonight & get one pack.. it's awkward you don't want tiny baby but something in between, just on the smaller side baby lol

BurnTheBlackSuit · 19/05/2017 19:34

Good luck for Monday! And make sure you have a nice relaxing weekend!

Thanks! Chance would be a fine think. We've now got to run around like blue arsed flies tidying up & getting everything ready because we thought we had more time 🙈
