HI Hope everyone is feeling great.

I woke up this morning with an urge to tell the world that i'm pregnant, I have told my bos about the pregnancy but none of my work mates. I'm going out for a drink on Friday and obviously won't be drinking, this is the second night out and they will suspect something. I'm nine weeks pregnant do you think this is too early to tell people

I've always told ppl after 12 weeks. As regards drinking, you could say you have an early start the next day and want to feel fresh, or just get a glass and hang on to it for longer (you can drink a bit, I went completely off drink because I didn't fancy it anymore taste-wise). Good luck with your pg.

I there Imready... I told my boss at 10 weeks as I had an issue with re-arranging a work placement, and she went and told everyone in sight!!! So it was kind of out of my hands. I would have preferred to have waited for my scan, as this is my first and I didn't quite believe it was true until I saw the little fella swimming around! I'm now telling everyone I see, bus drivers, checkout staff, traffic wardens....

I told mine this time at 8 weeks, had had an early scan so did have a photo to show them. I had been in the toilets alot anyway being sick so they had kind of guessed. Personally I think that I would prefer people to know anyway. As far as I know most people wait until 12 weeks because of the risk but I have always wanted people to know so that I have had their support if I needed it.

Second time had to tell H&S at 7 weeks due to a health and safety issue.

charNbump · 15/03/2007 11:51

I told one colleague when i was 6 weeks as i couldn't keep my trap shut! But told all othres at 9 weeks when i had scan....i had to show the picture off!
If u feel ready to tell....then tell! There's no laws, though some people do act like there are. I remember some people being shocked and like, muttering under their breath when they realised i was so early on when i told. No need i tell u! It's really a matter of personal choice.

My boss knew before i did, she told me to buy a test as i feinted in the office loos. i was already about 9wks when i did a test. I didn't tell anyone else until i had my 12 weeks scan.

Niamh07 · 16/03/2007 02:27

I am nine weeks and everyone at work knows because ive been off work for the past week with severe MS, but thats another story...
As Charnbump said theres no law as to when you tell people, just do it when you want to.

marieg76 · 16/03/2007 11:43

I told my boss at 9 weeks as we were about to do an office move and there was no way I could hoof heavy boxes about. Also, we tend to have an active social scene (and I'm known for enjoying a glass or two fo wine) so when at the pub (not a smoky place), he would secretly order water for me so I didn't have to give anyone my alcohol free order.

I'm due to have my scan within about a week so should everything be well, I'll be happy to make an announcement.

MrsBadger · 16/03/2007 11:56

We didn't tell anyone at all till after the 12wk scan, when I told non-work friends, families and my line manager.
At 17wks my colleagues still don't know, though I suspect the bump might give it away by 20ish.

TBH they're all suffering from baby fatigue - two colleagues have given birth since Christmas, also someone's sister and someone else's SIL - so they're fed up with hearing about it all.
I bore my non-work friends about it instead .

janinlondon · 16/03/2007 12:04

Told my bass at 18 weeks. He was stunned. He's a FRCOG - - doh!

PregnantGrrrl · 16/03/2007 13:18

with DS my boss guessed the day i found out. we had a works lunch, and i declined the wine for water instead. added to fact that i was giddy with happiness and grinning like a fool, it was pretty obvious. i was 4wks!

this time i told him- the day after i came back from maternity leave. i'm about 8 wks (i think!)

MrsBadger · 16/03/2007 15:59

jan, my FIL is/was an obstetrician yet did not twig when I spent a week with them over New Year in early pg refusing booze, paté, blue cheese, soft cheese etc
There's none so blind as them that won't see

gscrym · 16/03/2007 16:04

I told my boss after my scan. When I said I was pregnant, he said 'you'll need to see the works nurse'. I told him it was okay, I knew I was pregnant and had talked about things to the midwife. He said 'but we might have done things to you or we could do things to you without knowing'. I struggled to keep a straight face. All I had to do was mention a cervix and he had to go for a lie down. The joys of working with older blokes.

gscrym · 16/03/2007 16:05

Someone had guessed but kept their mouth shut. The giveaway was I couldn't eat much on curry night.

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 16:09

I told work at 6 wks. Early, but it was the xmas night out and I was not drinking. I hated the idea of people wondering, and felt daft keeping it a secret, so just blurted. Boss alread knew, the day before.

HonorMatopoeia · 16/03/2007 16:12

I felt I had to tell my boss at 6 / 7 weeks as I'd been quite ill. They were also interviewing for a new position and I knew my maternity leave would change the nature of the job they were offering. I'd have prefered to have left it till after the 12 week scan but my Dh said if anything (God forbid) did go wrong then I'd need the support of those I worked with anyway.
