Hi all ..

I am 33 weeks pregnant, I found out at 27 weeks we were expecting, and although I am beyond excited I'm really struggling with anxiety as I had a " couple " of nights out where I was very drunk with horrible hangovers the next day - the fact I was pregnant explains a lot, other than 2 major nights out I possibly consumed 4 units per week but nothing from 27 weeks. Has anyone been in the same situation and had a healthy baby. Il never forgive myself for something that has been out of my control :(

Hey,

I can't answer for OP (this thread is from 2017), but for my DD, she was born in July 2020. I found out I was pregnant at 28 weeks and had been drinking till that point). My daughter does not display any facial features of FASD (although people who have FASD, only 20% have the facial features). Currently as a 6.5 month old, she is developing perfectly and hitting her milestones at an appropriate time. If you would like talk more about it, feel free to inbox me xx

I’m sure your baby will be fine. I’m a teacher and alcohol damaged children are very rare. The three I have taught with foetal alcohol syndrome all had alcoholic mothers who lost custody of their children at birth. They drank copious amounts throughout the entire pregnancy. Obviously no one wants to take a risk, but in reality a lot of mothers drink in the early weeks and on and off throughout pregnancy and their babies are fine.
Don’t stress over something that you can’t change. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Flowers

Thank you so much for the reassurance, I will try to relax from now on xx

My friend was conceived on a 5 day ecstasy binge. His mum was an alcoholic who was also addicted to heroin and crack and he was removed from her custody soon after birth. He’s wonderful: the cleverest person in his family by a long way, very sporty and athletic, good looking and ambitious.

Not condoning fuelling a pregnancy with heroin, crack, pills and alcohol for breakfast but hope this puts your worries into perspective a bit.

This is really helpful and definitely puts things into perspective-thank you xx

And I’m so glad your friend has turned out amazingly, he deserves the world 💜

How did things turn out for you?

MJean · 25/11/2021 17:08

This thread has helped so much. I'm trying not to panic but I just found out I am 26 weeks, no symptoms, I still fit into my size 8 clothes. No period but I also only get them like twice a year. Took a negative test back in July /August. I went to so many weddings this year where the booze was flowing and I'm just so worried something might have harmed this child. Since I found out I have stopped completely but I'm worried the damage is already done.
