Anybody pregnant after Ella one (ellaone) failure?

Hi all

I am feeling a little anxious and hoping for some 'good news' stories.

I took ellaone recently after a silly accident. I have a growing feeling that it has failed. It is still too early for a test (and I am scared tbh).

My main concern is that I have heard that ellaone can cause harm to the baby - but information is hard to come by and even the drug company's is 'limited'.

Has anyone fallen pregnant after ella one failure? If so, I would love to hear your story if you are wiling to share.

Or any other useful infomration that people might be able to share.

Um....

Anybody? I would have thought this would have happened to some people at least?

Is Ella one the type that prevents ovulation rather the preventing implantation?

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 16:41

Hi Sir!

That is a really good question - and I can't quite get to the bottom of it.

Most of the literature seems to emphasise that it works by preventing ovulation. But, as far as I can work out, there is a second element to the drug that does something to the womb lining to stop it implanting. Hence my concern.

Stupidly, I did my research in a panic after taking it . I had had to ask for it over the counter at Boots in busy rail station after the bank holiday. There was no consultation room and I didn't ask all the questions I should have done.

I had hoped to be able to google and find legions of people saying things like, 'I got pregnant after ellaone failuare, and now I have a healthy dc!'

There are lots of those stories with levonelle. But non with ellaone that I can see. And I am getting quite worried.

I had to get one today Blush. The pharmacist says it was 95% effective in the first 24 hours.
I think it's even higher in the first 12 hours.

CabbagePatchKid91 · 13/05/2017 16:56

Why do you think it failed?

theothersideoftheworld · 13/05/2017 17:00

Ellaone delays ovulation. Why do you think it failed and how long ago did you take it?

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 19:26

Other, I was very very stupid.

Because I was already on day two when I went to Boots, the pharmacist mentioned Ella because it was effective over five days. We discussed the drop-off in effectiveness of levenolle - but not of ellaone I took the extra days as 'thinking time' and didn't take it until day five. That was last Friday. I am not quite sure when my last period began but it is due in the next few days I think.

I have been pregnant three times in the past - although only one resulted in a baby. And this feels fairly similar.

I am very confused feeling and quite anxious.

fwiw cabbage - if you have already taken it, I think you have acted very sensibly.

I wish I had have thought to ask 'what buys the extra two days effectiveness?' I know this sounds mad, but if it has failed I wouldn't want to think I have ruined what could have been a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you tumble.
The pharmacist told me to test in a few weeks if I haven't had a period or if it is especially light. How much longer will you need to wait to test? Hope you get the result you want Flowers

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 19:58

Hi Cabbage

I am no longer sure about the result I want.

Although I have lost track of my days, I have a bit of suspicion I could probably test now using a 'sensitive' test (I have heard of them, but never used one).

Although, for reasons I can't properly explain to myself I think I will hold off until next Friday by which time I will have moved into 'definately late' territory, even allowing for any of my losing track.

Good luck, Cabbage.

Don't forget that because it delays your ovulation it can also delay your period too. Try not to panic too much .

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 20:40

Thanks, the otherside of the world. I am in a bit of a flap - which never really helps anything, I know.

Still wondering a bit where all the 'I got pregnant after taking ellaone and it was fine' stories are? It isn't 100% effective.

theothersideoftheworld · 13/05/2017 20:47

I don't think there is evidence or research to prove any damage to a baby after taking ellaone. In fact i have read now that any effect on a foetus is either nil or negligible

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 21:51

Thanks, other.

Do you have a source?

I have found reputable sources saying 'limited data.' And US pro-life sources scare-mongering. Something in-between would be useful.

Yes I have, I'll try and link but I'm on my phone.

theothersideoftheworld · 13/05/2017 22:18

I've messaged it to you .

mrtumbleandhisguitar · 13/05/2017 23:09

Thank you so much, other!!

How Soon did you take Ella please? I'm on the same boat!

Hi OP, can't remember which one I had to take but I took MAP thinking done and dusted. Low and behold, period was 4 days late, I took a test and was very surprised that I was pregnant. After googling it, if you're already ovulating, MAF which delays ovulation doesn't work. Also if you're over a certain weight 70/75kg (which isn't that heavy!!) it can be less effective. Who knew?!
Went for a scan at 6.5 weeks and pregnancy was perfectly healthy and in right place

Thatslife234 · 11/07/2025 17:56

@summerlover how soon you did take the MAP?

SummerLover89 · 11/07/2025 17:58

@Thatslife234 within 12 hours. But it didn't matter because I'd already ovulated. Another time I needed to get it and explained to pharmacist what had happened before, and she suggested I take two pills (no damage to body).

SummerLover89 · 11/07/2025 17:59

I've never met anyone else this happened to though, I think it must be rare.

Thatslife234 · 11/07/2025 18:09

@summerlove thanks. Very similar to me. If my app is correct I was ovulating too. Counting down the next couple of weeks.

Plumchumm · 12/07/2025 08:00

Hi, this happened to me. My first pregnancy, I took ellaone, have pcos and was probably at day 30 of my cycle, and literally did everything wrong (was drinking, went to sauna and jacuzzi, swimming). My period was late and when I tested the line came up instantly. With scan and dates, I got pregnant due to ellaone failure. As others said it delays ovulation but doesn’t prevent anything. At the time I must have already been starting to ovulate, very late into my cycle.
I was young and reckless at that time. Pretty sure I took MAP the two months before as well.

princesseauxchampignons · 12/07/2025 17:56

I took ellaone about 8 months ago. My period was very delayed and when it did come it lasted for about 15 days !
