I went to a VBAC meeting today. I am consultant lead and they made a massive cock up at the start of the pregnancy by sending me letters and texts for appts which either never existed or did at one point exist but all got cancelled. I turned up to a meeting with a letter and a text but the appt wasn't on the system. No appts were Confused I spoke to PALS about it all as it happened in my previous pregnancy too and as a result I got a lot of appts through at once.

One was to have a vbac talk today and then a 28 week check up with the consultant rather than the midwife - who I didn't see in my previous pregnancy much either till the end.

At today's meeting a diff consultant said I didn't need to see the consultant for my appts now, I could go back to community midwife. Fine. She would cance the 28 week appt. Fine.

We both went to the reception desk and she asked the lady at the desk to cancel the 28 week one and offer it out to someone else.

Reception lady said in hushed tones, oh that's a Thursday so no she couldn't cancel as it's a specialist clinic. What was that for, asked my consultant. It's for mental health said the reception lady. Shock

I went over and said sorry, what?! Reception lady said Thursday appts were for acacia team and she couldn't cancel. I asked my consultant directly, Why wasn't I told I was referred to the mental health team as I had no reason to be?

Consultant said there was nothing in the notes about that and Reception lady said but she had been told last week that Thursdays are for Acacia Team. My appt was made months ago. So consultant then said perhaps it's just a cross over, I was already down to be seen on that day and now acacia also runs at the same time.

Reception lady then cancelled. WTF has happened here? Have I been referred to mental health without my knowledge? I looked through the notes, the day we made all these appts it just says "see at 28w". Paranoid and confused now.

Well do you have any reason to be referred? Being on anti depressants, prev pn depression, family history of schizophrenia or similar? If not I wouldn't worry. They don't refer people for no reason and as the dr said it could be a new thing for thursdays started since your appt was booked.

I'm sure it's just yet another administrative slip-up. By the sound of it you've no reason to have been referred for specialist MH maternity support. Believe me, it's as rare as hen's teeth, so you'd be very lucky to get it if you really needed it.

But I'm wondering why you'd be so very worried if it turned out you had been referred for peri-natal MH support. It wouldn't be without your knowledge. And it saves lives (mine included). Grin

No I don't, but I did make a lot of fuss on the day that appt was booked because of the balls up. I wasn't aggressive or shouty but I refused to leave until they saw me as per my original letter and text.

The trust were appalling in both my previous pregnancies, so I fully accept that it could be either explanation - that the bookings overlap, or that they've covertly booked me in with this MH team and not told me.

I do get paranoid about these things, I fully accept that Blush I am a born worrier and it was the hushed tone that just made me think oh god, what has happened this time?!

They wouldn't covertly book you with the MH team, it's not allowed - you'd have definitely been told. Probably just an admin error, happens all the time.

That is all I needed to hear ❤️

Don't worry. Being assertive in the face of frustrating administrative errors is very different from having a mental health condition of a severity to warrant a perinatal mental health referral. They'd definitely not have covertly or stealthily referred you for supportive specialist services just based on you being assertive around poor service.

(I work in mental health services and have been a user of perinatal mental health services myself).

Thanks. Smile I just needed to hear some rational voices! At every appt something goes wrong and I just thought, great now it's this... I am going to have to have another argument!
