Just noticed I am spotting again, this is the second time now, I am only 4 or 5 weeks pregnant- got to go for a vaginalscan tomorrow and I am petrified, has anybody had this type of scan- got a dodgy pelvis and wondered if you have to have legs apart? Fingers crossed everything is okay - just a little anxious though x

Hi
It is always a worry if you bleed whilst pregnant bu this happened to me when i was pregnant with my dd1 and i needed an internal scan.It is a bit embarrassing ,bit like a smear, you just open your legs and they put a condom on the probe and have a rummage for a bit, mind you i must admit thinking to myself "bloody hell that will never fit, lol. They will be able to tell you if there is a gestational sac there or not.
Hope all goes well for you

If you are only 4 or 5 weeks pregnant it's probably too early to tell the outcome of spotting, unfortunately. Try not to worry too much though b/c if you are not having cramps or pain then it is likely to be implantation bleeding. Remember that altho spotting always needs to be checked out during pregnancy, it is very common and generally not anything sinister. I had spotting at around 6 weeks and this lasted for almost 3 weeks and thankfully all has been fine. I totally understand being anxious, it's very stressful when this happens. Try to stay calm and at least your scan is booked for tomorrow so you won't have to sit and stress for much longer. I had an ultrascan done transvaginally at 7 weeks to check for the source of bleeding and they could not tell what was causing it but thankfully they found the tiny little baby with heartbeat so it was very reassuring. At your stage they will not be able to find a heartbeat or see much detail of the baby, except for a gestational sac but hopefully they will be able to tell you what's causing the bleeding. Don't be scared of this type of scan though, it is the same type of scan that I had and it is not at all painful or scary to have done, so don't worry. Good luck tomorrow!

My friend had quite a lot of bleeding and cramps etc during weeks 4-8 and was convinced she was having a mc. Doctor was really unsupportive and wouldn't really do any investigations and told her to get on with it an hope for the best really. She was really worried and couldn't relax. She's due next month and has been totally healthy for the remainder of the pg, scans have been great and baby is a real kicker!! Try and relax as much as you can - easier said than done I know. It's great you're getting some medical support and you have to put some faith in them to give you some answers. Quite a lot of people seem to have experiences like this in the very early stages due to implantation etc. Fingers crossed for you tomorrow x

Hope everything went well today

Had sparse brown spotting at 4 /5 weeks and more dark-red bleeding at 12 weeks and am now bouncing my bonny 10 month-old on my knee - scary at the time though - the scans should help you to see what'ss going on....good luck...and let us know how you're getting on...

Hi everyone, had scan this morning and everything was fine the baby's heartbeat has started, which we were overjoyed by, still bleeding but it wasn't coming from the baby! They did find a large follicle on my ovary, so if I have any twinges they want tokep an eye on things!

I am still bleeding! Getting worried now, do you know when you just feel something isn't right. I have phoned the midwife, and she told me to get in touch with the hospital, which I did, I spoke to the doctor on the Early Pregnancy Unit, she mentioned it's quite normal to bleed for about a week early on in pregnancy. I think I am more worried this time around as this didn't happen with DS!

I have just been to the doctors this afternoon, and they don't seem too concerned, I told them I had cervix erosion before I had Thomas , so they had a look and took a swab, said there was some discharge, and my cervix was red and inflammed with 5 areas of what looked like grazing. Won't have the test results for about 7 days, I thought if there is sign of infection they may have put me on antibiotics just as a precaution until the results came in! WHat do you think? I don't want the infection to cause any harm to unborn baby if that's the case.

I wouldn't worry about infection causing harm to baby. He/she is wrapped up in a protective womb with lots of protective layers. Im sure if they were not worried then it will be ok. Good luck xxxxxx

Hi LRangel. You must be relieved now that you know where the bleeding is coming from. I am in a similar situation: 6 weeks pregnant and bleeding for almost three. A scan showed that everything looks fine but I do not know the reason or source for the bleeding, so am concerned. I had surgery to my cervix so hope that's the cause but nobody looked into it (no pun intended). Let us know how you fare. I have not seen my GP in this pregnancy (long story), partly because I thought they wouldn't do anything about it anyway. But if you will receive treatment at some point it might be worth going for me... Let us know how you fare
and all the best!

loopyredangel · 21/03/2007 10:08

Thanks for asll your support. Glimmer if I were you I would go and see your doc and ask them to rule out an infection, if you don't want to see your doc ask can you see a nurse or the midwife!
