I have a feeling nothing can help much tbh in preventing them, but I use Palmers Cocoa Butter to at least keep skin moisturised and smelling like cookies.

Pointless, as stretch marks travel from the bottom up rather than from the surface down. So no cream is going to penetrate down to the very base layer they erupt up from.

With my first I used bio oil and it worked perfectly up until 8 months and 3 weeks! The last week when she dropped I got a few! Been using this time round and I'm
Almost 7 months and no new ones so it seems to work ok but as said before I think if your gunna get them ur gunna get them x

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 08/05/2017 08:11

I used baby oil on wet skin and not a stretch mark to be seen. .
And have had a lot of dc!!

Littlebunnyboy130 · 08/05/2017 08:24

I used a 'secret saviours' belt, all the women in my family are covered in stretch marks so I fully expected to get them. I used this belt and didn't get a single one! I'm convinced this is the reason why. Comes with nice creams too and well worth the money I think.

Littlebunnyboy130 · 08/05/2017 08:26

To add I was tiny and carried a 9lb 5oz baby too!

FantasticMax · 08/05/2017 12:40

I think it's down to genetics whether or not you will get them, though rubbing any sort of cream/oil on the bump is going to help soothe the skin as it stretches, so it's still worth doing. Steady weight gain helps too I'd guess.
That said, I used Bio oil and no stretch marks in either pregnancy.

Mamma mio - 4 pregnancies, 2 living dc- have to be religious and tbh it's luck of the draw BUT the mamma mio stopped the dry itchy feeling. Good luck.

I'm currently 19 weeks so still early on but have been using my secret saviours band too littlebunny. The creams are lovely and the band is comfy but it is expensive. No stretch marks so far but not showing a huge amount. I'm covered in them from Weight fluctuations when I was a teen so I know I am very prone so am hoping and praying this works.
So far has been really worth it though.

BillyButtfuck · 08/05/2017 13:09

It's genetic I'm afraid

WantingBaby1 · 08/05/2017 16:38

It is genetic but a decent cream or oil can't do any harm, and will help retain moisture content which helps skin to stretch.

I use bottle o butter from amazon. I find it better than bio oil as it really keeps the moisture in rather than just laying on my tummy and things.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 08/05/2017 20:35

Bio oil is meant to be good to lessen the severity of stretch marks.

Secret saviours belts look brilliant, and the science behind it is sound, but they don't have an XS option and my S belt still doesn't fit at 27 weeks so I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of it although I'm sure I'll grow into it in a few weeks. I just hope it's not too late by then!

Littlebunnyboy130 · 09/05/2017 21:58

I was very glad of mine hedgehog I fully expected to get them due to all women in my family being covered. Got stretch marks on my boobs but nothing at all on my belly or back!

bekahchara · 07/08/2017 12:17

I've been using Secret Saviours and so far it's been amazing! The belt is really supportive too.

If you visit this blog there is a discount code for the packs that's valid until end of this month! www.yoursclothing.co.uk/blog/post/how_to_prevent_stretch_marks_during_pregnancy-863 - deffo worth a try!

Anatidae · 07/08/2017 12:39

Nothing can prevent them totally. They are formed when the structure of the skin tears at a deeper level than any commercial cream can penetrate

As such, they are formed when the load of the skin exceeds the capacity to stretch, which is a mixture of genetic factors and how rapidly the area expands. They can't be prevented or fixed by creams.

So any moisturiser you like the feel and smell of is as good as any other

Gothbaby · 07/08/2017 13:23

Ive been using Palmers Cocoa Butter (the stretch mark press bottle) using it throughout has calmed down my stretch marks (ie. red / blue to skin colour) not sure how good ones are to fixing after but this has helped me loads x

Choccyhobnob · 07/08/2017 16:44

Again I don't think anything will help if you're going to get them! Was convinced I would as all women in my family have them so I refused to spend lots of money and just used palmers cocoa butter or stretch mark lotion and didn't get a single one! My bump was always lovely and soft!
