Hi I'm 37+5 I'm due to have a c section on 17th may.
I had a horrendous birth first time around which after hours of labour rushed for emcs. I opted for planned section this time. What happens if I go in to labour before my date. I'm so scared after last time and worried what will happen. Having lots of pain, period pains worried I'm going to go in to labour before Sad

I was just told to make my way straight to hospital as soon as contractions started and that they would give me the next available theatre slot.

This happened to me last week. I went into labour 2 days before my planned section.

Surgeon tried to persuade me to go for a natural as the labour was progressing very fast.

I refused, he pissed about and made me feel like an inconvenience. 1.5 hours after getting to the hospital we went into theatre and I was 6cm dilated.

Apparently my uterus scar was very thin and it was possible it would of ruptured if the labour had carried on. One of my ovaries was bleeding and another had a cyst on it.

The whole thing took 2 hours instead of the usual 45-50 mins.

He came to me afterwards and said he was very glad he listened to me otherwise things could of been very different.

I opted for a section due to a traumatic first labour ending in c section and yet I ended up with another bad experience.

My advice to you would be that if you think labour has started then ring the labour ward straightaway don't leave it until your in advanced labour

BakerBear Oh my you poor thing. I'm scared of this happening my first labour was awful and really they messed me about I should of had section sooner than I got.

When I've asked my midwife about this she's quite vague and just says you could try and have vac even though it was her who convinced me to have a planned section in the first place.

Yes if pains get worse I'll contact hospital asap. I can't remember my first pregnancy and if I got these niggles before hand. 13 days till section which seems a life time away lol

It depends if medics think that you might be capable of a vaginal birth - for me, labour would have been immediately life threatening for DD (she was transverse, which makes a cord prolapse likely) in which case the planned section would have become an emergency one. However a friend who didn't want to attempt a VBAC (and had agreed a c-section with her consultant) went into premature labour with DC2 (i.e. at 34 weeks), and was refused a c-section; she was told she was too far along. Her DC2 was born vaginally. So if you are in labour, you'd be best getting to the hospital as fast as possible - my friend has short labours.

At my hospital if you are having an ELCS and go into labour before, you just go on and have your section at the next available slot.

You have the choice of vbac if you want, android obviously if things move too quickly then a section may be out of the question but they will still try to give you your ELCS.

Can you get some reassurance from your consultant?

This happened to me recently too. I went into labour 4 weeks earlier than my scheduled section. There was no problem about getting the section done. If it does happen to you, I would recommend telling them that there is a C-section plan in place when you ring triage. This seemed to help with me!

And not android...

Bloody phone.

My dd was breech until 37 weeks and I was having lots of Braxton Hicks/false starts and they told me to go straight to hoSpital if I went into labour and they would give me a section.

I'm booked for an elective section. Was told if I go into labour early to ring hospital asap and I'll be given the next spot as an emergency basically.
