Portland Hospital Mums - questions about delivery!!!

I've been with The Portland Hospital since getting pregnant (yay, 24 weeks now!) and have had a great experience so far.

My questions are surrounding labour and delivery.

  • Are they okay with eating if you have a mobile-epidural? I know regular epidurals don't allow eating.
  • Are birth pools always available? I know epidurals are available on demand but will I have to wait for a birth pool?
  • If they think I need an emergency c-section, will my partner be separated from me at any time? What was your experience in this situation?
  • If you had a breeched baby, did you feel that the midwife turning your baby was confident? How quickly did they realise your baby was in a breeched position?
  • Were you given any choice in who preformed your emergency c-section?
  • Did they send you home if you were less than 3cm but definitely in labour?

Are you under midwife led or consultant care? If consultant your chosen consultant will deliver if under midwife led it will be the covering consultant.

You are allowed to eat with the mobile epidural.

A consultant will perform an ECV had one although unsuccessful was painless.

I have had 2 sections 1 emergency and 1 planned and my husband did not leave my side. Both fabulous experiences

You will not be sent home if you don't want to but may be sent out for a walk if you wish.
