Brown discharge 16 weeks

Hey.
Looking for some advise / reassurance.

I had some brown discharge today. Tinged in the morning then had brown clumps by 2pm luckily my local hospital were fantastic and scanned me by 5pm baby was fine. She had a real look around placenta looks fine, strong heartbeat. Discharge seemed to stop now I'm home it's 8.30 and it's starting again and I have cramps feel like period is coming.
Is this bad? I am so upset and scared. Surely you would bleed if the baby had passed away not before the baby passes away? I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks.
I really thought we were out of the danger zone now I can't relax and enjoy this pregnant. I keep knicker checking and so scared then blood is going to go red ☹️.
Any advice or help would be amazing xxx

Thank you everybody for all your help and advice. I do have swabs being taken tomorrow so maybe it in an infection. They said I have quite a large placenta at my scan no idea if that could cause anything!

I had bleeding at my 14 week. Was scared like hell. Went to doctor and had an ultrasound. Report showed I'm having low lying placenta and it is close to my cervix. Then doctor gave me some medicine and recommended complete bed rest for a month. She said the uterus is supposed to grow larger in a month and the placenta will get higher. I need to wait till then. Since the placenta is near the cervix, my movement can lead to further bleeding.
Now I'm at 17 week and having bed rest (not to mention it's super boring) and pelvic rest. Waiting to have another ultrasound at my 19 week. Doctor will check if the placenta is up or still lower. If it is not up I will have to get bed rest for another month :(
