slow labour ? please help

hello,
i have been having period type pains and some backache for a few days now gets these with tightenings around my stomach they come and go will have them every 15 mins for an hour then they will go for a few hours then come back!rang midwife but she was no help just said she will see me next week at clinic if i havent given birth!!
dont know what to do next are they contractions and am i in slow labour or is it just braxton hicks ???
any ideas would be great
forgot to say im 39 weeks and this is baby no2.

hiya, sounds like braxtons to me. i had a lot when PG with my 2nd. I ended up being 2 wks late with DD and the midwife gave me a sweep- she said I was already 3 cm dilated from the braxtons... so they are quite a good way of your body getting ready. Braxtons supposedly get worse with each pregnancy. Of course, if they get more frequent then call your midwife again.

Hi, I had this for a while at the same stage with DD and it turned out it was the head getting engaged even more so...
