Growth scans??

Just want to know if they are anything to worry about.
The first midwife I saw has apparently worked out my BMi wrong. She said I was 20.2 but according to my main midwife it is 19.8 which means I need growth scans. I'm 20 weeks so this should of been worked out at my booking in appointment.
Got to see a consultant next week but now Dh is convinced this means I have to stuff my face at every opportunity to get my BMI up but I'm pretty sure that won't change anything.

Any advice or experience would be great, thanks xx

Growth scans are nothing to worry about, I am having them because I'm having twins and they are naturally smaller than most babies. Stuffing your face won't make any difference, my BMI is 17.36 and nobody has told me I need to be eating more yet and I've made it to 25 weeks and they are both growing and have always been within a normal size for their gestation. Nobody has ever shown concern for my low BMI not even while I was having bad morning sickness. Your BMI is pretty much normal so seems strange you need growth scans because of it!

The growth scans really just take measurements of the head, waist and leg bones to get an idea of whether baby is growing as expected and it's sort of nice to get extra scans as you get to see more of your baby developing than most people. The consultant will have a look at the measurements after the scan and its a good opportunity to ask questions if you have any.

I know she said the cut off point for no growth scans is a bmi of 20 so I was surprised becuase I was so close but still have to have them. And thank god for the no stuffing your face, I'm already eating a truck load of stuff a day dont think I can stomach anymore. Will make sure dh knows Grin

I had to have growth scans to because of some tablets that I was on. They where every 4/5 weeks. I thought it was unnecessary for me at first. But it was nice to keep seeing the changes and I have loads of scan pictures. Good luck with your pregnancy

I know can't wait to see the baby again at least. And hopefully they can tell me the sex for certain this time as baby kept crossing its legs at 20 week scan but they think it may be a girl

I'll be having growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks because my 2nd child was massive (and with him I hadn't had a scan since 20wks so we had no idea)

I just look on it as lots of extra chances to see the baby :)

Also with my first baby I had a late scan (as placenta was low at 20wks) and that picked up another issue which I needed induction for (low amniotic fluid) and we wouldn't have known if I wasn't scanned. So I just think the more chances to check all is ok the better really :)
