Kidneys failing

Hi just have wondering if anyone else has had problems with their kidneys 33 weeks pregnant. They have said that they aren't working as they should, I have high bp but they still haven't confirmed preeclampsia.

Baby isn't doing amazing, my placenta is also not working correctly. I have a doppla scan on wed which will give us the details we need to see if she need to be born asap.

I've had my second steroid injection today. I'm rather swollen and have a headache but the midwife dismissed it as my bp was actually ok. ( I should mention that I'm on the highest amount of bp medication I'm allowed to be on)

I've not had experience of kidney issues but I did have a failing placenta and the start of pre eclampsia. I was monitored very closely, had steroid injections at 32 weeks and was delivered at 35 weeks. It sounds unlikely that you're going to get to term so perhaps start preparing mentally for a prem baby. 33 weeks is a great gestation, if you make it to 34 weeks then outcomes are basically the same as for a term baby. It seems like you're getting well looked after, make sure you ring up if there's any issues with movements or if you're feeling worse.

Gosh, poor you.

Friend had chronic kidney infex with her 7th pregnancy (yeah really, 7th). Lad was born fine, though. She stopped @ 7 kids.

Maybe you could get a home BP kit tomorrow, for peace of mind?

Thanks you replies. I'm defo preparing myself, the dr seems to think it will be more then likely a section at the weekend if the tests don't improve on wed. As much as I wish she could get further I'll be so pleased not to have to worry any more. She's 34 weeks on sat so fingers crossed she makes it until then.

I have a bp kit at home ( which the consultant hates) but I like to be prepared it's great for a couple of hours after my meds but then goes high again!

Have they checked your urine for protein? What sort of scan are you having this week, you mentioned doppla (doppler?) but a doppler wouldn't tell them much.

passthewineplz · 01/05/2017 20:04

Foggymist the Doppler scan is to check the placentas blood flow, which will help to determine if it's working properly.

Phobesmam I'm really sorry you're going through this. If your headache gets worse, or you develop any other symptoms please head off to hospital.

Foggymist · 01/05/2017 20:14

Ah ok, when I had pre eclampsia I got a scan where they checked kidneys, liver, placenta and baby.

What is actually wrong with your kidneys? I had hydroenphrosis (I've probably spelt that very wrong) during pregnancy. It basically means your kidneys swell up and can happen in pregnancy. You under the urologist?

I had lots of utis and was on antibiotics on and off for the whole of the third trimester and a bit before then, but not continuously. But... I did have a history of kidney problems (although I had thought they'd been fixed). I also had pre existing slightly high bp and did develop pre-eclampsia but it was controlled with meds (that kept being increased) and I went in twice a week for monitoring and it didn't affect my birth. I had a planned section (loved my c-section by the way) at 39 weeks as my baby was breech.

Yeah had a plus if protein but they seem to be putting that down to a water infection. It's a doppler scan to test the cord or something to make sure she's being fed and getting enough oxygen. She was well above the 95th centile last week and this is when all the problems started with my kidneys
