Were you offered early scans with history of miscarriage?

I've just found out I'm pregnant. I'm delighted! We have been trying for 18 month on/off and had a MC at 6/7 weeks last October. Do they offer any more scans or tests in first trimester. Don't think I can wait until 12 week scan!

We were offered an early scan at 10 weeks after 4 mc last year and paid for a private scan at 7 weeks. I think early NHS scans are offered after 3 losses in our trust.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Tvinthursdaysucks · 01/05/2017 15:16

I was but after 3 recurrentage miscarriages. I wasn't after the first 2. You could ask your midwife but it might be you have to pay for it privately.

Recurrent not recurrentage!

I had 2 early MCs last year but no mention of early scans this time. I think the 3 losses rule is pretty common. I've got another week to wait until my 12 week scan & am consoling myself with the thought that an early scan wouldn't change the outcome & could make things more upsetting if there was a heartbeat & I went on to miscarry anyway.

There's the option of private scans if you're not offered an NHS one. Fx for a healthy 9 months for the both of you!

I've had 2 mmc's in the past 9 months and am pregnant again. I'm in for a scan tomorrow as we were offered an early scan from 7 weeks this time around. Definitely give your EPU a call and ask x

I was after my first M/c but suspect it was because I was 40 and seen as higher risk.

Dani00 · 01/05/2017 16:06

I think it depends which trust you're in! Personally I know they're expensive but if you're not offered one then I would get a private one if you're able, really puts your mind at rest X

Huge congrats to you, OPFlowers

We were offered an early scan and then another pair at fortnightly intervals (I was spotting) to get me to 16 weeks. However, as another poster said, this was available to us after 3 prior MCs and this did seem to be the standard in our area.

Yes, I got confirmation scans at 8 weeks, then every 4 weeks until 6 months, then every 2 weeks. I was told I could come in at any time for one if I was worried or needed reassurance - so, bleeding, less kicking, or even just that 'not feeling pregnant' any more feeling that I always got.

I'm not sure they'd do it for one at 6/7 weeks though - this was after I'd had a lot.

Sweetyboo · 01/05/2017 16:13

They dont care much unless you had 3 m/c that ive been told after my 2nd m/c then i had my 3rd in dec 16 now i just find out im prag again and km super worried & paranoid but im in same boat where to get more tests & extra scan. Can go private but thats like £89 per scan. They should be more considerate & helpful now I HOPE. Lets see

Gallavich · 01/05/2017 16:14

Only after 2 miscarriages. They don't offer as a matter of course after one.

Gallavich · 01/05/2017 16:15

Congratulations by the way!

NetflixandBill · 01/05/2017 16:18

I was after the second but not officially. After two missed miscarriages in the space of 4 months the consultant basically said just ring EPU directly and they'd see me at 8 weeks which they kindly did. I'm 29 weeks now on third time lucky.

Sweetyboo · 01/05/2017 16:46

Congrats netflix😃

NotAnotherUserName5 · 01/05/2017 17:01

Congratulations!

I didn't bother asking if I could get an early scan with this pregnancy (I'd miscarried previously at 13 weeks)
I booked a private scan instead for 8 weeks. I found the environment much more relaxing than a hospital setting personally.

I have heard of some ladies being offered them (usually after 3 mcs) or as they were so anxious, so might be worth asking!

Catlady100 · 01/05/2017 17:07

I went to see my GP to let them know I was pregnant and I was so anxious she kindly suggested I had a scan at 8 weeks and booked me for it (that was after one miscarriage) x
