Things seem to have changed quite a lot since I had my last child 8 years ago.
I'm 19 weeks and have had back pain and lower abdominal pain since yesterday lunch time. I've taken paracetamol and tried to rest to see if it eased. Been up most of the night and it still the same this morning. The only numbers in my maternity folder are for the hospital so I called them for advice to be told that I should go to a&e to been seen.

I then called my doctors to see if I could have the community midwife number to call her and see if she could reassure me but was told they no longer provide it and all contact goes through the hospital.

I was just wondering if this is the same in other areas? Seems very dramatic to go to a&e and I feel a bit daft. I assumed there would be someway for me to see a midwife rather than take up resources in a&e.

Can you call the triage/walk-in for your maternity ward? I had a number on my green notes, or you might be able to look it up.
Any concerns you have should be checked out and I think that's probably the best call.

Sorry just seen they told you to go to A&E, that sounds odd to me. But if you need to go to A&E to access the hospital then I would do that.

If they've told you to go to A&E then presumably that's the most appropriate way to access the care you need in your local area.

We have the community midwives' number so everything goes through them here, but it's going to vary across the country.

EPU up to 19+6 and MAU after 20+0 in most trusts

We are told A&E up to 19+6 and midwife triage after 20wks. (I am 19+6 today and called triage but told if any issues overnight to still go to A&E, as of tomorrow I can go to triage)
