Scan to check cervix

Has anyone had this??
Im having my anomally scan next week and straight after im having an internal scan to check the lenghth of my cervix to check for risk on pre term labour and also having a check for risk of pre eclampsia.
I never had this with my first pregnancy and just wondered what its like and if anyone has had it and what the outcome was?

I had one at 23 weeks, 3 weeks after anomaly scan, was asked if I wanted one and said yes. Absolutely fine, very quick, much quicker than anomaly scan, in fact I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to see the baby much on the screen. I didn't feel any discomfort at all during the scan and they told me cervix was long so no action was needed. I was a bit concerned as at 20-week scan I had been told that I had a low-lying placenta and had read that internal scans should be avoided in that case due to risk of bleeding but I had no bleeding afterwards.

\I had this too. They use the same instrument as they would to scan an early pregnancy and it is fairly quick and pain free.

Absolutely. I had these fortnightly from 18-28 weeks.

As others have said will be a long probe inserted into vagina - bladder needs to be empty. You can expect the Dr to watch you cervix for a couple of minutes and to press on the top of your bump to ensure that the cervix doesn't shorten when pressure is applied.

Shouldn't be uncomfortable at all.

I should say that I was at risk of prem labour as I had history of prem labour. They may not do the pressing or watching if there is no reason to be concerned for prem labour.

Why are you having the test? Are you at risk of prem labour? Or is it a new routine test where you are?

Im having the internal one as i had a high AFP level on my screening test at 17 weeks. They scanned the baby and thank god found no probes there so they said it may be a problem with me, one being risk of pre term labour also risk of pre eclampsia(especially as i had it with first pregnancy).
They said it may be nothing but the scan would be able to confirm this.

Well all went fine thankfully. The length and blood flow of the cervix was very good and my chance of pre term labour is less than 1% apparently so that was great. The anomally scan was great too so very relieved!!
