Free food for the pregnant at Pret?

So I just got my second free lunch of the week at Pret! I thought the first one was a fluke/ perhaps because someone had cut in front of me in line, and I am very heavily pregnant. But today was told (on again being given £11 of food for free, in a different branch and one I don't normally go to) that it's Pret policy to give visibly pregnant women their food for free. Can this be true? Has anyone else experienced it? I will be going back every day if so!

You don't need to be pregnant - Pret have a 'random gifting' policy. They can give anyone they like free food and drink, and any member of staff can do it - they are encouraged to pick people they think could use a treat!

GastonsWife · 15/04/2017 14:09

Sounds awesome! Wish we lived near a pret 🤤

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/04/2017 14:11

"I will be going back every day if so!"

That's a joke, right?

IrregularCommentary · 15/04/2017 14:35

wishes I'd gone to Pret whilst pregnant

HeyCat · 15/04/2017 14:39

It's not guaranteed, but pret staff are encouraged to give out occasional freebies to people, and I can imagine a staff member feeling like treating somebody heavily pregnant.

I ate at pret almost every day of one of my pregnancies, and got freebies maybe 4 or 5 times in total, so don't get too excited!

Popskipiekin · 15/04/2017 14:41

Dang. I went to pret pretty much every day whilst pregnant and though the staff were lovely they never offered me anything!
I did get a free coffee at one pret when I said it was my last day at work at a local office so I wouldn't be coming back.

That is a really lovely policy :)

'I will be going back every day if so!'

And this is why it's a random policy, because otherwise you get people who completely take the royal piss.

(Prefix: I am a man)

will be going back every day if so!

Pretty sure this is a joke but please don't people, this is how nice things get ruined by people taking the piss, people may still have had their free coffees!Grin

They do give freebies occasionally. One of the only times that I've been given stuff was when I was very upset and pregnant but probably not visibly so.

CaulkheadNorth · 15/04/2017 14:52

I've had a free cookie in there when I was the only customer, and a free coffee when I went in crying!!

They are also brilliant at supporting local charities with unsold food.

FannyWisdom · 15/04/2017 14:54

The only time I ever set foot in a Pret I was given my lunch for free because apparently I'm very smiley and cheerful.

Took the wind right out of my sails because prior I had refused to eat their over priced, hip, randomly named food.
It's difficult being Yorkshire sometimes.

relaxo · 15/04/2017 15:09

I went into Pret and wanted to order a flavoured latte. They had one called Love Bar so I asked the cashier what that was and he explained and I got it for free.

Love the idea of random gifting.

GinIsIn · 15/04/2017 17:32

Also, they allow customers to random gift to other customers....

I got a free tea the other day, but I go to pret a couple of times a week and this was the first time it's happened. Maybe the more pregnant I get the more it'll happen!

FamilySpartan · 15/04/2017 17:44

I've been into Pret at least 8 times in the past month, visibly pregnant, and I've yet to receive my food for free.

DevelopingDetritus · 15/04/2017 18:07

They should give it to people that really need it, not people that can afford Pret.

NeedABumChange · 15/04/2017 18:16

I used to go everyday on my lunch break and would get a free tea everyday and occasionally lunch.

Lunalovepud · 15/04/2017 18:27

I used to get free coffee in Pret on my way to work - I used to go daily to get breakfast or a banana etc and coffee and 5 / 10 they gave my the coffee for free. It was only a black filter though, nothing complicated. I used to also buy coffee occasionally for the Big Issue vendor who stood outside so I'm not sure if they gave me freebies for buying him coffee. Either way, it was really nice.

bangbangprettypretty · 15/04/2017 18:29

I ordered a mint tea a few weeks ago at 30+ weeks pregnant and they added a bar of chocolate and gave it to me for free, it was lovely.

bangbangprettypretty · 15/04/2017 18:30

Detritus they give all unsold food to the homeless, their charitable efforts are well documented.

StealthPolarBear · 15/04/2017 18:33

If this was he case id get permanent free food.
Really need to tone up those abs...

DevelopingDetritus · 15/04/2017 18:38

Detritus they give all unsold food to the homeless, their charitable efforts are well documented. That's fantastic, they'll be able to give even more if they stop giving freebies to people that don't need it then.

Mupflup · 15/04/2017 18:40

I've had free coffees a few times , mostly when I've been really tired or hungover, I think they felt sorry for me
