Hi

I'm 30 weeks pg with no.3. I am having trouble with my coxex. Sometimes it is sooooo bad, I can't sit down and if I do the pain is terrible to stand back up. Driving is very sore.
I had it when pg 1st with ds, it started about 35weeks. With dd it started about 28 weeks and with this one it has been painful since about 24 weeks.

Has anyone else suffered with this? or Know anything about why it is so painful?
I have a slight language barrier with my MW am not really sure she'd understand what I was asking.

I had this in my last pregnancy it's horrific isn't it. No advice but lots of sympathy. I think its when the pelvis is slightly out of alignment maybe some physiotherapy would help?

I finally got rid of mine about
4 weeks after ds was born then I fell down the stairs on my coxis (I cna't spell it either) and hurt it again! It's fine now though.

No advice aprt from mention to MW/GP...is coccyx btw

ledodgyDave · 08/03/2007 16:39

You could go and see your gp about it and he/she may be able to refer you for some physio.

Yes, I did. Like you, it started earlier with 2nd one. But it went away after birth and I never found out anything about it. I used to sit on a birth ball (huge inflatable ball) instead of a chair, that helped.

Its coccyx or tailbone if you want to google it.

LOl Tigana I knew there was a Y in it somewhere but didn't have a clue where!

I had this and went to an osteopath who helped a lot.
It could be part of SPD Symphysis pubis dysfunction of pregnancy.
Worth searching SPD on the archives for some info.

Hey lady. Had terribly coccyx pain for a couple of weeks, especially when sitting or lying down.

Obstetric physio fixed it in one almost pain-free motion. Now, what's the French for obstetric physio? Unfortunately, it's not one of those situations where you can just point at the offending area and groan, heaven knows what your midwife would make of it.

Thats my problem SOH,

Thank you all, I have googled it and I am surprized it has a diagnosis

I damaged my coccyx when I was having dd (now 8 years old). I was working in a small office when I got up to put a folder on the shelf and when I sat down, my chair had rolled away (without me knowing) so I crashed to the floor straight onto it. Looking back, I don't know how I coped! It was months of being in pain and not being able to find a comfortable position - I remember distinctly not being able to lie on my back or relax my back.

I have damaged it again since (hilarious story of me going down a water slide and hitting the bottom of the pool at about 60mph!); and both times the pain lasted a few months. I'm sorry I can't offer any hope of any cure but I can promise that it will go away...

Thanks purplelostprincess, My Mum informs me that about the age of 11 I went down a water slide at a paddling pool, hit he bottom VERY hard and damaged my coccyx. Ah ha, it all makes sense!
