Trouble with coil removal

I went for a coil removal today and the nurse tried multiple times and failed. At my 6 week check my string werent visible so i had a scan which showed my coil in the right place but strings up in my womb. This is 3 years ago so She's referred me for a scan etc but just want to hear other people's stories.

Has anyone done this before? Did they manage to remove it after? If so did you have trouble conceiving after?

Understand everyone's situations are different but we were all excited and now disheartened that it's going to be a while and worried it will be difficult after

I've had the copper and the mirena coil and conceived within a couple of months after having them removed with my 1st and 2nd pregnancy.
Shame your threads have gone wandering, hopefully they will get your coil out quickly for you x

I was in a similar situation to you, strings were cut short due to needing a LLETZ procedure. A year later they disappeared completely, scan showed it was still in place. When it came to having it removed it was very tricky, the (male) nurse at the GUM clinic must have taken it as a personal challenge and ended up using a local anaesthetic and various types of forceps. Wish he'd given me the local sooner but he did finally get it! I conceived within 6 months. If he hadn't have removed it I think I would have been referred to gynae outpatients at the hospital.

Yes I also had lost threads. Very nice Dr at the family planning clinic got it out with some poking and prodding. Be prepared to bleed a little after maybe take some painkillers in advance. If it's not the family planning clinic that you went to before I'd go there, you can usually self refer.

My GP couldn't find the strings of mine. Had scan, all still in place. Referred to specialist clinic who also couldn't get it initially, but a bit of local anesthetic and they did it. I was pregnant straight away, no period between coil out and positive test.

I'm considering having a coil after DS born.. out of interest would you all recommend?

I had the Mirena and I would definitely recommend it, I had no periods after the first 6 weeks. I did still get some PMS type symptoms like bloating and sore boobs, but nothing horrendous. It worked really well for me! I'll probably get it again after baby is here :)

Hi, I had this also. Went to get mirena removed in September last year and the doc that put it in couldn't get it out after much prodding, poking and pulling!! Referred me for a scan to check it was in the right place - which it was - so had to get it taken out at the hospital. Finally got it taken out in November, it was a little painful, I'd probably recommend taking some ibuprofen before you go! The gynaecologist that took it out gave me gas & air as it took a while to get it out. I then got pregnant on my 3rd cycle after having it removed. Currently 8 weeks. Good luck! X

Hi OP. The Nurse tried and failed to remove mine, so i was sent to hospital where a Consultant also tried and failed to remove it. In the end I had to go under a general anaesthetic, where it was successfully removed. I was a little sore after, but otherwise all ok. It hasn't out me off having another one, once this baby is born, although I am also considering sterilisation too.
