I ran into some family members I hadn't seen in a while and they were like oh you don't even look pregnant from behind, mil was saying you were out to here indicating I was not only huge but wide but your not your neat. I'm actually lost for words.

Iv had loads of comments on my bump! I'm due in 3 weeks and people are telling me I'm tiny and making horrible comments.. this is my first, not a nice feeling! Never quick enough to think of a comment back though! 🙈

CoffeeChocolateWine · 29/03/2017 10:22

First pregnancy, my DH and I weren't married at the time and I told a few colleagues in a team meeting that I was pregnant. One male colleague responded with, "oh you naughty girl"! Hmm This was someone I also considered a friend and was used to a bit of banter so I didn't take it too seriously...just a bit Shock that he said it in front of my other colleagues!

When I was expecting my second child, I was making myself a drink in the office kitchen and a male colleague, who again I was quite friendly with, came in and said "blimey Coffee, you are piling on the pounds" Confused He then added, "sorry, I've just always wanted to say that and it only seems acceptable to say it to a pregnant woman". Still. Not. Acceptable.

Lunalovepud · 29/03/2017 10:56

I was reasonably polite to people in my first pregnancy but this time I'm rude and proud to those who are deserving!

Sometimes people are just clueless and I give them the benefit of the doubt but bump touchers, weight watchers and doom mongers all her short shrift and I don't feel remotely bad about it.

There should be a PSA to let everyone know that the only acceptable thing to say to a pregnant woman is 'how are you' or 'you look great.' it not difficult.

HamNJam · 29/03/2017 11:03

"Ha ha!" you don't know what's going to hit you and how your life will massively change laughed my boss when I told him I was expecting twins. (He already had kids of his own, it wasn't malicious Confused)

CJB1980 · 29/03/2017 16:55

A lady on the till at asda asked how far I was, 7 months I told her. She told me I was very small and was my baby Ok!
Also I've had: was it planned? IvF?
Is that why you got engaged? We've been engaged for 3 years!

Mandraki · 29/03/2017 17:26

I work at a day centre for people with learning disabilities and have just told the clients this week that I'm pregnant. Responses have ranged from 'ummmm you had sex!' to 'when did you get pregnant?' and my personal fave, I was off on leave all last week and one lady said to me when I told her 'ahhhhh thats what you were doing last week, naughty things!'. From friends I've had a lot of being told I'm HUGE for 12 weeks (which I suppose I am, but some of it is definitely cake), and people guessing what I'm having (which is the only thing that does annoy me funnily enough).

lockie1983 · 29/03/2017 18:27

With my first everyone were nothing but happy, complimentary and lovely. I was treated like s special little snowflake.

This time my parents have been telling me I'm huge since I was 14 weeks, saying how big my arse is "oh last time you couldn't tell you were even pregnant from the back", how shit I look "oh your hair isn't as glossy this time is it?", "your skin isn't as glowy this time", "oh you look so tired in this pregnancy"

That would have absolutely nothing to do with the toddler I have to run around with or the cake I need to eat to stay sane

2bluestars · 29/03/2017 19:04

With my first, a colleague at work who I used to share coffee runs with refused to get me any more cappuccinos as in his view i shouldn't have been drinking anything cafeinated. And someone i was studying with (on day release from my full time job) said 'well clearly that wasn't planned' when i said i was expecting. I was too Shock to put her right!

schokolade · 29/03/2017 19:28

At a family gathering at his place FIL insisted in front of others that I was fat (I'm not, I'm 8 months pregnant!), and then gawped at my stomach for a minute. Then he said "I can go and get the scales if you like". He really seemed to think I would be pleased by this plan. Sometimes FIL is... weird...

YourMateMima · 29/03/2017 19:30

You're definitely having a girl because you've lost your looks.

Nope I'm having a boy I just got ugly Blush

ScarlettFreestone · 29/03/2017 19:35

I have twins and so was massive.

About three quarters of the people who asked about my bump asked if it was IVF on hearing that we were having twins.

Eventually I stopped being polite and started saying "and that would be your business why exactly?" Confused

Whingewine · 29/03/2017 19:47

I was at a garden centre and commented at how cute the new born in front of us was lady at the till gushes about said new born and then exclaims oh your pregnant too I didn't realise with your little bump! (This was my second pregnancy with my nearly two year old) when's your due date? I replied this weekend ( more exclamation how small bump was) I had him the next day 7lbs Grin

squizita · 29/03/2017 19:51

"Your bump is to small" Head tilt "You know you had some ... you know (sort of mouths) MISCARRIAGES don't you? Shouldn't you get it checked out?" Confused Shock
Really?? I'd forgotten about all my miscarriages and I drank gin and smoked all day. Sarcasm
I wasn't even unusually small.
Spent the next couple of days harassing my specialist midwife. Who told me th only thing she was worried about was a sudden anxiety increase.

Ffs who even says something like that!?!

squizita · 29/03/2017 19:55

I was also told I'd age instantly and never have nice make up or nails again (implied: if I was a good mum).

I am super crunchy and bf and wear my almost 3 year old. Like a proper educational toys gentle parenting wankery, that's me and I know it.
I have done nails, hair and make up most days. Hahahaha hahaha killjoys!

mummabubs · 29/03/2017 20:40

@firsttimemum15 I have a similar thing where my MiL has taken to touching and stroking my tummy randomly and frequently, I hate it!! I'm only 12.5 weeks so it's mostly bloating and the other day when we visited she came over beckoning FiL and lifted up my jumper saying "look, she's got a bump already"... felt like I was being physically assaulted and made me feel so uncomfortable. She's a sensitive soul though so I'm trying to think of a gentle way to ask her to stop! Any advice? 😉

firsttimemum15 · 29/03/2017 20:54

I just used to back away and say "baby isnt moving at the moment" "I will let you know when baby is moving so you can feel" because I seesr she wouldve sat with her hand on me the whole time but she has very little perception of personal space to begin with

WheresYouWheelieBin · 30/03/2017 11:29

My sister and I worked at the same place when she was pregnant. One afternoon she went off for a routine scan, colleague said to me wouldn't it be funny if they found that instead of having a baby my sister was having an enormous cyst. This was a few months after I had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. So no, not funny in any event but certainly not in those circumstances Confused

OnNaturesCourse · 30/03/2017 11:52

My mother... "I think you should move home, I'll help you cope"

I moved out 2 years ago and live with DP.

My Dad... "How did it happen"

Not sure he really wanted the answer to that.

RedCrab · 30/03/2017 12:04

It's the end of pregnancy comments I can't stand. And most seem to come from women (who might have had children and therefore should know better!). When you're waddling to pre school every morning: oh not had it yet?

No. No I fucking haven't. What does it look like?

Or the helpful comments about what you should try. Completely uninvited. I don't actually believe anything gets the baby moving until its ready so find the suggestions incredibly tedious. Especially from my friend who knows I have SPD yet keeps insisting I should be squatting up and down vigorously.

I'M NOT EVEN OVERDUE YET Angry

Oh2weealone · 30/03/2017 12:29

FIL told me 'you're looking large today,' which actually got worse when a few weeks later told me I looked like a beached whale. Just the other night on FaceTime he exclaimed 'what's that at the bottom of your shirt?!' I'M CARRYING A FUCKING BABY YOU KNOB 😡

Lemondrop09 · 30/03/2017 14:02

Thought you ladies would enjoy this Grin

GingerHanna · 30/03/2017 15:44

Hilarious lemon. I may have to put this in repeat at work later in the year.

firsttimemum15 · 30/03/2017 16:16

Ive remembered some more. But now ive forgotten and I am not even Pg. Grrr

GuinessPunch · 30/03/2017 16:16

Are you happy about the baby and do you think you will be a good mum?
By my male boss.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 30/03/2017 16:22

A horrible woman in my work is very overweight, she must be at least a size 20 + and is also very tall, about 5'9. I am 5ft and a size 6. I'm in size 8 maternity jeans. She repeatly tells me I'm 'bloody massive' 'absolutely huge' 'look at the size of you today' 'make way she's coming through' I am honestly so so close to saying the exact same phrases right back to her maybe on my last day before I waddle my ass out It actually makes me really upset and I'm so annoyed this idiot has made me cry.
