Holiday to Spain at 34 weeks pregnant. Am I mad?

Expecting dc3 and tying to squeeze in one last holiday before the chaos begins. We are going to a friends apartment so all very convenient and just a short 1.5 hour flight for us. I have gone 2 weeks over due with both Dc1 and 2 so don't felt this one will be any different, although I appreciate things can happen. Just needing some reassurance that I'm not barking mad and taking a big risk???! Obviously travel insurance will need to be arranged to cover pregnancy related stuff including potentiometer birth and need a fit to fly certificate from the gp. Aaaarhh I'm starting to wonder if I've done the right thing. Any experience please greatly appreciated!

Dc 1 and 2 wwre both late had to be induced. Dc3 out of nowhere no pre warning came at 34 weeks

What time of year will this be?

Have you checked that you can get travel insurance that will cover you for that period? I think mine stopped at a certain point though I can't remember when...

The airline may not let you fly that late.

I would go. It's only Spain and plenty of babies are born there so even if you're early, what could go wrong? Just take your notes with you and EHIC card just in case.

Not sure of you will be allowed to fly. Even if you are you may very well need a letter from your GP.

I think you'll find it hard to find travel insurance, but beyond that it's up to how comfortable you feel about it.

I was supposed to go to spain when i was 33 weeks (now im 35), didnt wanna go as im petrified of planes but to shut my nagging nan up i phoned the airport to ask about flying when pregnant just on the off chance they would say i was too far along. They said none of the airlines they have let anyone fly over 34 weeks so i could fly out but wouldnt be let fly back to wales. My midwife also said that far along its not a good idea medically either, not just because you can go early unexpectedly x

Just to clarify, I can fly and have checked the policy with the airline. I will need a letter from the GP which I have had in my last pregnancy when I flew at 27 weeks. I have also checked and I can get insurance so this wasn't really a question of practicalities, more about whether you would or not.

I wouldn't but my dc was born at 34 weeks and other babies we met in the NNU were born earlier. I know that it is not that common to have a premature labour but now I have had one, I wouldn't risk it!

I flew to Spain at about that stage with dc2 and it was fine. They did ask for my gp letter on the return leg though. DD finally turned up 9 days over anyway. Enjoy!

I went to Portugal at 33weeks with DS2. Its absolutely fine if your healthy etc. The only thing for me was that DS1 was sick while we were there so it made the trip exhausting. But if we were in Europe this time I'd go again.

What could go wrong if her baby is born in Spain? Waiting to get a passport to be able to come home with the baby. Being stuck in Spain with 2 other children and a new baby. What about her partners job if he cant get more time off. The disruption of missing return flights and booking 5 more seats.

You could be stuck there a while.

I travelled overseas at 36wks, if you are feeling well and are organised regarding nearest hospitals and the like I would def go.

All that laying around in the sun and enjoying myself would be hard to pass up

27w is very diff to 34w

Personally no i wouldn't go abroad at this time

Reading some threads think there was a Devon one possibly wedding at 36w

I wouldn't personally, because my last birth was a bit scary and I can't speak Spanish, so if it happened again, I wouldn't be able to understand the midwives or doctors during the birth. Saying that, DS didn't arrive until the last possible moment before they would have induced me, 42+something..

I did this with my first, had a Spanish speaker in the group though.

I drove back from Spain at 37 weeks at the end of August.
Dd arrived 3 weeks later. .

I wouldn't. But go for it you seem motivated to do it.

I flew at 35w to Spain. It's fine.

Personally I would go IF you are going to a place with excellent medical facilities. If you're going to a small town, no way. But Madrid, Barcelona, Ibiza etc - all fine.
